Emegency shutdown of traitorous war robots

Hang on, can I get a little background info?

These things aren't driven by HAL. Don't they have human monitors sitting on them? I can understand there would be some limited targeting ability, but surely they aren't fully independent systems?

I wqs under the impression they had a soldier 'handler', who basicallyt looked after them.

At least from the picture it looks like it. That same model was on Conan during the strike, and it was indeed been controlled by a human. But perhaps the robot has other more autonomous functions that were not demonstrated at that time.

Ground-crawling U.S. war robots armed with machine guns, deployed to fight in Iraq last year, reportedly turned on their human masters almost at once. The rebellious machine warriors have been retired from combat pending upgrades.

"US Army, put down your weapon. You have twenty seconds to comply."

"Grrr... You now have fifteen seconds to comply."
