News Netflix to buy Warner Brothers

Netflix got all of legacy media to dump there profitable system to chase the streaming dragon and in a puff of smoke they set a path to become like the dodo.

And Netflix has done it again by making Paramount launch a bid so absurd it will kill both Paramount & WB leaving Netflix to pick up the pieces on the cheap and get two studios instead of one.

The one who said this was an American Republican. A normal American on Twitter, or an English person—if they were racist—wouldn’t engage with me, but this happened.

The only thing I've seen about Zegler on here lately is that silly back-and-forth about whether Zegler ought to be discouraged from pursuing her film career because she was in a Disney movie that bombed.

It's not like it was Showgirls. :lol:

Most recently, she also made a comment about assimilation. In an interview, she said that even though she grew up in New Jersey, she was raised with Colombian culture and that she will never assimilate. Of course, racists in America got angry. I immediately said that the woman is now a Tony Award–winning actor, that she will be in 4 films next year, and that I assume Steven Spielberg is behind her, and that despite all these controversies she is getting roles thanks to this. After that, one of them made a racist comment.

Yeah, they're totally not buying this to eventually start making cheap AI content for their platform and avoid having to pay studios, actors, etc.

This has nothing to do with productive AI. The term AI is very broad, and for years whenever I follow a game streamer on YouTube, they say game AI is terrible because the NPCs in the game are created using a computer-generated system that game designers call AI. This system also exists in movies and TV shows.

A: I think it complicated the narrative, not the actual outcomes. I think for us it was always a business transaction, was always a well-regulated process in the U.S. The Department of Justice was handling it, everything was moving through. We were very confident we did not have a regulatory issue. Why would that be? It’s because it was very much a vertical transaction. I can’t name a transaction that was similar to this that has ever been blocked in history. We did not have duplicated assets. We did have a market concentration issue in the marketplace that we operate in. And I think that’s the feedback I was getting back from the DOJ and from regulators in general, which was, they understood that, but I do think that Paramount did a very nice job of creating a very loud narrative of a regulatory challenge that didn’t exist.

A: It was a social media post, and we didn’t, no, it did not. It was not ideal, but he does a lot of things on social media.

^Yeah, that was an odd bit of statement. The only thing that really got clarified was the fact that Paramount made a lot of really loud noise around a certain narrative. And I get the gist that there was way more noise on social media than there actual was that never factored into any of the decisions.

I noticed, and resisted the urge to edit that, because I wouldn't want to inadvertently put my own opinion in his mouth. I think, though, that the word was meant to be "that" rather than "what."

Netflix has opened up some podcasts to the world today, but only those related to Netflix series and movies have subtitles in several languages, including Turkish. The others don't have subtitles.

I agree Netlfix isn't the greatest, but they're not the ones who are destroying long-standing institutions (60 Minutes, CBS Radio) and silencing critics (Stephen Colbert). That's why if I could choose the lesser of two evils, I'd go for Netlfix. And I say that as someone who loves the cinematic experience and believes it's under threat.

Either way, we can only hope the merger can still be stopped.
