More Firefly?

I would have (maybe) been a lot more excited by this prospect back before I know what I do about Joss Whedon and Adam Baldwin these days. While I'm open to the possibility that Firefly could be good without them, I have, unfortunately, doubts. But I'd rather have nothing than a series that involves either (much less both) of them.

I don't see how they can film a Firefly show as many of them are in ongoing projects like Fillion with The Rookie, Baccarin and Torres are also currently working, Tudyk is also in demand.

Maybe if it's a reboot the old crew will feature in the pilot and hand off the show to a new crew, that's about the maxiumum i can think of right now.

 Oh please. Learn to separate the art from the artist. If I boycotted everything produced by the Bolsheviks that infest Hollyweird, I'd have turned my wide-screen TV into a coffee table 20 years ago.
Must be nice to be privileged enough that you don't see any reason to consider the broader context of the entertainment you consume.

It's really not that important to me. I just really don't care.

It has nothing to do with "privilege", either. Unless, of course, you're being triggered by my proposed unconventional use of a flat-screen TV. As if I'm still supposed to be using my old 8-inch black and white CRT that I had back in the 80's to satisfy some virtue signaling prerequisite that some folks out there require of everyone. If that is true, then I don't care much about that either. :D :p

But nice try in any case, and bless your heart for your concern.

I think Firefly having any interest for me died after Serenity. I'm simply good with the TV product we got.

Does the fact that Gene Roddenberry was a les than pleasant individual in real life bother you when watching Star Trek?

It does me, every single time I watch Trek I feel myself thinking about it on some level. "Wonder what it ended up costing this actress to get this job?"

The only thing that saves it is that I understand that Trek is more than one man. It is comprised of a lot of dedicated people and fans.

I pretty much write off Roddenberry's involvement after TMP. Yes, he was responsible for bringing Trek back to life for TNG, but that was about the extent of it. He just got a little too wacky in his Autumn Years to be of particular relevance. I agree with BillJ, in that Trek has evolved and transcended far beyond Roddenberry's original concept. Star Wars too - Lucas was extremely lawsuit happy over others allegedly stealing his IP (Battlestar Galactica was a prime example), despite the fact his work is full of huge draws from old Japanese films, culture and anime. It doesn't really bother me that the creators of these things were kind of schmucks. What we got from them are, as a whole, far more impactful to popular culture than to the small handful of founding individuals involved.

I mean, it doesn't have to be that broad. I'm two degrees of separation from the guy who was accused of accepting sexual favors to write about a video game in the bandwagon Baldwin jumped on. And if you trace out the whole sprawling after-effects of GamerGate, I can make a convincing case that he was a key figure in the recent rise in gasoline pieces.

But, hey, it's all just politics, not real life. I'm sure my anti-union right-wing equivalent has a similar gripe about Pedro Pascal personally calling his mother a whore and starting a chain of events that led to Chick-fil-A only being open six days a week.

I'm gonna be honest, I think about those hand-polished stones a lot more often than I wish I did. And I still don't know what to make of Gene Coon reconnecting with his long-lost sweetheart, immediately divorcing his wife to be with her, and promptly dying of lung cancer.

In any event, even before the stories about Whedon came out, I had the opinion just comparing Firefly to Serenity that he was a better contributor than auteur. Even without considering his personal flaws, I'd much rather have Tim Minear as the legacy voice in a new Firefly project than Whedon.

I think the legacy voice is Fillion. He's the one's fans have connected with both on and off screen. He's also the one who is toughest to replace if he doesn't like where a new project goes.

This just seems like wishful thinking to me. If something is actually coming out, it's definitely not going to be a full series involving the original cast, most of them just way to busy at this point.
Nathan Fillion is the lead and an executive producer of The Rookie, which as far as I know is still going strong.
Morena Baccarin is the lead in Sheriff Country and Jewel Stait is a regular on Family Law.
I don't how prominent she is or how easy it would be the write her off, but Gina Torres also has a recurring role in Memory of A Killer.
I really can't see all of those either ending or going through cast shifts and possibly rewrites just so they can come back for more Firefly. Now audio dramas or a spin-off with the original cast making occasional brief appearances could still happen, but I definitely don't see a full on original cast revival happing.

I hope this happens but I'll believe it when I see it. I've lost track of how many times we were going to get another Battlestar Galactica series and/or movie, with countless announcements of new writers and new directors signing on to the project and then quietly fading off to do other things without any traction.

Heck, they've been talking about remaking Logan's Run and Barbarella since the nineties at least.

Probably happen someday, but I won't believe it until a movie actually goes into production.

Now that I've seen the story on IGN, I see now that there apparently is definitely something coming up, but obviously it can't be anything that will involve the original cast to much.

I think this is one of the more likely scenarios. We're not getting a revival, the legacy cast is too busy and frankly too old.
An audio special is not out of the question either.

I did check a couple days ago to see if there was a reasonably fresh Firefly thread to post about it in, but I wasn't going to start a new one for what's, so far, been a YOU WON'T BELIEVE-level tease.

Pretty much, this...

... is where I come from. (Without seeing anything on IGN just talk on the Reddit and the Instagram video.)

This seems like a lot of promotion for something that isn't significant.

No one seems real quick to say it's a flat-out reboot/re-launch, people are quick to say it's something meaningless like a panel on the Podcast Fillion and Tudyk have together, Funkopops and such. The reaction from the cast has been that it's not anything like that.

A relaunch/continuation of the LA TV series doesn't seem possible at this point for numerous reasons but it certainly seems "something" will happen.

As seen here people are open to an audioplay, maybe a cartoon? We'll find out in 10 days. But, at this point, it seems like something to watch and I don't think they would be doing this to a loyal fan base if it wasn't something to maybe been hopeful about.

Firefly: The Next Generation

I had a thought, maybe it's another movie, something that the busier cast members could squeeze in between seasons of their shows.
