More Firefly?

Surprised no one is talking about this here...

Nathan Fillion has done a series of videos on Instagram of him showing up at the homes of other Firefly cast members as they exchange "Is it time?"/"It's time," style looks and dialogue as references are made to the original show. (Yet to do Adam Baldwin or Alan Tudyk tet, Jewel Staite was yesterday.)

So, the question is... What's happening? The big aspect is, Disney has Firefly. The big drawback is... Disney has Firefly.

Fillion and others have dismissed that these videos are simply promoting something smaller (fans have suggested things like a full con panel or interview on Fillion's pod cast, an RPG play, no one is quick to say a reboot.)

I'm hesitant to say that but, hell, I'd be happy with an audioplay.

We'll see what happens.

No links here, don't feel like digging them up. Go to the Instagrams for the cast, or search through Google, you'll find them. It's really interesting to wonder what it is. Fun enough just to get these clips with Fillion with and the rest if the cast.

I would be happy to have an audio series with the original cast too. I don't think another movie or series would be the best option at the moment, I feel like everyone has aged too much to go that route.

The argument I make is that these videos are too much for "it's time", knowing nods, character references. I swear Adam will have the knit hat and Alan will have the Out of Gas button.

It can't be a new series, I won't set myself up for it. But, I also don't think Nathan, and the rest of the cast, would be doing this to fans they've had for 20 years and the ones gained over that time.

With a shrug. We'll see. Ides of March is supposedly when the official announcement comes. (Which may say something in of itself.)

Eh, I love Firefly, in fact I just did a rewatch of the series and Serenity back in the fall and it's still as awesome as it was the first time around over twenty years ago. But honestly, it's time is done, I'm okay without ever seeing any kind of revival. And since Whedon most certainly isn't coming back, any sort of revisit is likely just going to be memberberry fueled empty nostalgia. The last thing I want is to see Firefly get the Picard S3 treatment.

What's happening with that Firefly-universe show that was being developed? Could it maybe (speculating here) be close to filming a pilot and maybe the cast will make cameos? Yet another idea log for the rumor fire.

I'm in the firm belief there's no point in doing more without Ron Glass. Yes, yes, Book died but I maintain my stance.

First time I've seen that rumor. Do you remember where you saw it?

Me neither. We'd end up with scene for scene copies of The Train Job or Out of Gas with new, less charismatic actors and stupid dialogue. The "loss" of Whedon would also affect the quality of the remake, even tho he's persona non grata in Hollywood. I know I wouldn't watch anything he's made now.

About hand full of years I read (probably here) news a Firefly series set in the same universe but not featuring the original parent series cast, was being developed. Right now all I am finding is comic book news and rampant internet rumors of Nathan's videos. And an old one about Disney+ wanting to revive the show, but tone it down and change the character stories (in other words, shit all over it to make it "friendly").

I hope this happens but I'll believe it when I see it. I've lost track of how many times we were going to get another Battlestar Galactica series and/or movie, with countless announcements of new writers and new directors signing on to the project and then quietly fading off to do other things without any traction.

To draw a more present-day parallel, it sounds a lot like the new buzz around a new President Archer/post-Enterprise series. There is a lot of talk and little of actual substantive motion from the deciding studio executives which, of course, is the most important thing. I suspect some bean-counter out there will measure enthusiasm demographics to see if it hits critical mass of some arbitrary number before whispering in some suit's ear to give it a try. We shall see...

Sounds like nothing than baseless rumors then. CBN is hardly reliable.

No, I said comic book news was coming when trying to find the original thing I mentioned. I didn't say what source and I didn't say I clicked on any links. Why would I click on a link about comic book news that is not about what I was trying to find?
