Where is Galileo?

Actually, back then I am pretty sure they could reuse music from prior seasons but it had to be re-recorded for the new season, which apparently was done based on the information on the complete soundtrack collection notes. Much of the familiar music became library cues, used (and recorded) every season. The rules now are totally different and don't allow that (as I understand it).
For TOS, my impression is that so long as you held a new recording session and made a new version of the prior year's piece of music, the union would look the other way if you tracked new episodes from the prior year's tape. Which is very compatible with what you are saying.

Right, but they couldn't reuse the same recordings from the prior years even though they did.

Did they? Which ones, would love a few examples. The notes on the complete collection are pretty detailed and note all of the tracks from previous seasons that were rerecorded; some of which sound almost identical. If there are other ques used that were not rerecorded but used, I would like to see some proof.

The Lights of Zetar is filled with music from the original Where No Man Has Gone Before recordings. The episode starts with a cue from The Doomsday Machine recordings. The Tholian Web and Mark of Gideon use the same cues from By Any Other Name ("More Blocks"). In fact, that cues is used so often that season, I forgot it was composed for BAON.

These aren't from the library sessions. All of the library cues are available with the rest of the scores. The also always sound different and they can be picked out easily enough. The third season mixed 3rd season library cues with original recordings. For example, The Mark of Gideon and The Way to Eden used "new" library recordings of Where No Man. They're really easy to differentiate.

Thanks, will give them a listen.

This saddens me. The previous owner spent something like $100,000 to restore it and then donated it to a museum to be displayed, and they then promptly got rid of it. Whoever has it now (The Set Tour, apparently) is apparently not displaying it. I don't understand why.

A special hanger deck is being built at The Set Tour to properly display the restored Galileo.

A big announcement was recently made at:

I don't recall the specifics, but there is something known as (?) the law of large props. Someone will know this. It says, roughly, that the larger the sci-fi prop, the less sought-after it will be when production wraps. Portable Star Trek treasures grew legs and walked away in 1969. The communicators were stolen outright, as were the precious music score master tapes (which thankfully were later rescued by Neil Norman). By contrast, the big stuff had to be given away.

According to my notes, Paramount gave the Galileo mockup to the Braille Institute of L.A., who didn't want it, so they gave it to a Roger Hiseman of Palos Verdes for his son to play with in their front yard. When it got dirty and disgusting, Hiseman sold it off, and it changed hands several more times over the years. Outdoor living was hard on the mockup, and it's been through at least three restorations. For the owners, it's been kind of a white elephant.

An even bigger example: the 55-foot, 10-ton Titanic miniature from Raise the Titanic. Nobody wanted it, so it sat outdoors and decayed for decades in Malta, where the fx scenes had been filmed.

The spacecraft mockup from Planet of the Apes ended as a battered road sign in Kanab, Utah, proclaiming "Four Seasons Inn - Family Restaurant." There must be a lot of other great props that never got a place of honor in retirement.
Roger Hiseman of Palos Verdes… how funny. I live just down the street. I used to”the google” to search the address, it was at 27352 Rainbow ridge

I’m sure the neighbors were “delighted”. I used to drive on Crenshaw every day and must have passed that house without realizing it was part of the TOS lore.

It’s so sad looking at the beat-up pictures. Poor Galileo in such a state. To restore it to the level they did is a beautiful thing.

Well we had a lot of fun and Feek was a tremendous help!

Not to promote the Tour but the plan is to have her on display by the 60th in September with special events starting in June. Check it out on their Kickstarter page.

It’s 13 years since our restoration and she needs a bit of a face lift - but really in quite good shape.

So it’s you and Feek that do it?

*Processes*

Wow. Massively enjoyed your YT video about the process years ago and so hugely admire how you aspired to get it right, down to exacting details.

I know on the one hand, it’s not restoring the Mona Lisa or whatever in terms of cultural importance, but personally, as a fan of archive TV and TV history, I believe you achieved something phenomenal and of great significance.

Thank you, really.

Always appreciate the recognition! Thanks back. I’m involved in the current fix up but most of the work is being done by the Tour and a cadre of volunteers.

Pics of the shuttlecraft in the yard of 27352 Rainbow Ridge are in this blog entry:

I see that the linked site incorrectly states "The shuttle was designed and built by the legendary Gene Winfield." Winfield headed AMT's Speed & Custom Shop in Phoenix, AZ which built the full-size shuttle, but it was principally designed by Thomas Kellogg with additions by Matt Jefferies.

This is my obligatory, everyone go listen to the Soundtrack Show's 4 part series on the music of TOS.

Wow, has it been that long? I'm getting old.
