David Boreanaz Cast As Jim Rockford

James Garner was one of the coolest and most charismatic actors of his day, almost certainly the greatest tv leading man I can think of. So those are big shoes to fill. My initial thought was “no” but having thought on it, while I haven’t seen DB in anything since Angel, he’s quite good at self-deprecating humour and charm. So they could’ve done worse. Judgement reserved.

Edit: Boreanaz spoke to the Garner family before accepting the role and has their blessing. A nice touch on his part and I’ll definitely wish him well in the part.

DB is no Jim Garner, not even close, but, then, pretty much no one who'd do network TV is. If they had to remake this he's a decent choice.

Now that Angel is playing Jim Rockford, who's going to play Rockford's Angel?
Garner had an interesting career choice too, in that regard. He was an Oscar nominee and had starred in The Great Escape so he had a great movie career before he moved over to the small screen. He wasn't the only person to so, but I suppose it was a rarer move to make at the time when your career was still in full swing.

I liked the openings with the answering machine:

"This is Jim Rockford. At the tone, leave your name and message. I'll get back to you."

** Beep **

"This is Velma, the cleaning lady. What the hell you doing with all that furniture thrown around your house? Damn near threw my back out trying to pick up all those papers and chairs! You get in a fight or something?"

I have an answering machine.

I dunno ... Voice mail?

Given that Rockford is supposed to be cheap and down on his luck, he could still use the answering machine.

They should get Sarah Michelle Gellar to do the message! :luvlove:

Yes, multiple cast member from both shows. In fact, in the original series, Garner knew "Angel" actor as his sidekick from another TV series. So ... what about somebody from "Angel" to play Angel? I thought maybe Glenn Quinn (Doyle), but he died in 2002.

After NBC remakes Kojak with David Duchovny, Baretta with Frank Grillo and Mannix with Joshua Jackson, they can use Blair Underwood from their short-lived Ironside remake as the central piece in the crossover episodes.
