Bank of England Warned to Prepare for Aliens

It's a comedy whose premise doesn't bear close scrutiny or it becomes an existential horror flick.

Why would the universe care that some random dude is a douchebag who needs to end up in a relationship with a particular character? In some branches of a multiverse, a version of him does, but making him experience all the branches to be able to ratchet his way to a very arbitrary goal by exploiting memory seems like the behaviour of a cruel godlike entity, similar to the Ancient Greek ones.

Isn't this sort of behavioural reprogramming the sort of thing the Chinese Communist Party used to do?

I think you are really overanalyzing it. Valid points but I think you are taking it to heart a little

What about all these planets they keep finding that are described as "earth like" is there some set criteria for such a description?

Whenever I hear that my eyes roll and I keep wondering do they mean lush, thriving world with plants and native fauna or is it just a nice planet that's now a dead world but full of plant life?

Suppose you had something like Europa orbiting a gas giant with an even stronger field than Jupiter—might that protect life from flare stars?

Half the time it will be behind the gas giant anyway.

The stronger the magnetic field, the worse is the radiation environment. Jupiter's magnetosphere is 20 million kilometers across - 150 times wider than the planet. While it shields the planet from solar storms, its radiation belts are filled with high-energy electrons, protons and ions trapped by the magnetic field, which is 20,000 times stronger than Earth's.
