The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Well there's a coincidence.

Is that screenshot taken from the YouTube channel? Because it was just uploaded today. If not, that is a coincidence.

Having been a military dependent who grew up on SAC bases, I really liked The Starfighters.

"Is your face odd? Misshapen? Join the Air Force!"

Truth. Saw those faces all the time.

Also liked the Werewolf one. Hilarious.

Okay, prior post was June 2025, well within the 1 year "resurrection" limit...

The team at RiffTrax has started a KickStarter to produce 4 new MST3K episodes. Not just the off camera voices of Mike, Kevin and Bill, but a return of their puppet 'Bot alter egos, Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot! The announcement was made earlier today with a goal of 20,000 dollars to be hopefully raised within the next 42 days. They are already well past 755,000 bucks and still climbing!

I'm not sure of the policy providing links to things like KickStarter, so to avoid any possible board violations, I'll just link the video they posted at YouTube. That's perfectly Kosher.

I'm not pushing for anybody to pledge. I myself am not in a financial position to donate, but I thought the news itself is interesting. BTW, what was the latest set of episodes that Joel's team produced, the ones offered through their own streaming platform? I had to cancel my subscription shortly after my company "retired" me, so I lost track as to what they made.

I threw in my hundo immediately. The announcement video immediately felt like classic MST3K in a way the reboot never quite managed; granted there's bias from seeing OG cast members again, but the 'bots once more have distinct personalities (something the reboot never quite got dialed in) and they're giving Mike shit again (the reboot also never quite settled on how they felt about Jonah or Emily).

I just wish my brother we're still around to share this with; he and I would trade episode quotes constantly when we were teens. But otherwise, I'm pretty excited.

So how does this work legally and rights-wise and such? I figured that Rifftrax was something Nelson, Murphy, and Corbett started because they didn't have the rights to do MST3K and had to do a legally distinct knockoff version. So is this a coproduction? Or did one of the IP owners buy out the other?

Joel sold his stake to Shout! Factory a month or so back, so now Shout owns MST3K in its entirety. Presumably partnering with RIfftrax was something they wanted to do, and since Mike et al had a prior relationship with Shout via "The Film Crew" that may have helped them be amenable. So here we are.

I'm also, frankly, of the opinion that Joel may well have pissed off more of the OG crew than just Trace and Frank, who were very open about feeling insulted by the way Joel handled the reboot. I do think it's suggestive that, as soon as he walked away, the Sci-Fi cast and several below-the-line guys all came back.

Well, that probably explains why the Shout! YouTube channel has been uploading the complete Jonah and Emily seasons recently.

You should just be able to go to their YouTube page and look for individual episodes or you can watch it as a marathon.

I tried, but there were so many videos that it was hard to find those specific ones. I could only find season 11.

Also, just to be clear, by "the Shout YouTube channel," do you mean the one titled MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 and run by Shout, as opposed to one of the other Shout channels?
