Things that frustrate us all

Education.

After watching the winner of the Australian of the year awards and her really good speech I feel hopeful and inspired yet part of that speech frustrated me.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s I wish we had had STEM when I was growing up in the 70s because as a kid I was very mechanically minded building cars and stuff out of legos with gears and wheels, watching how parts move and connect. If I had had STEM back then I think a lot of things in this life for me would be very different, or that I'd be in a much more different place.

Saw a guy walking on the sidewalk. There's a woman walking behind him. Suddenly he stops and just snaps, starts yelling at her. I forgot what he said but the woman stepped out onto the road and sped up to get past him. He was white and she might've been Asian, if that played a factor. Someone drove by and was staring at him, he stared back and called the driver a f----t.

Probably was because she was Asian in appearance. People today feel very entitled about things like that

I go on Amazon to purchase a 5 gallon Yellow Type II fuel can. I go to the cart to finish my purchase, I am told they can't ship it to my location (California). Head back to the item page and change the color from yellow to a 5 gallon Red Type II fuel can. It is the same price from the same manufacturer. The sale goes through. The can has arrived, I'm going to use it for diesel instead of gasoline. To avoid mis-fueling, next time I'm at the hardware store I will pick up some cans of yellow spray paint.

All the cans have the CARB (California Air Resources Board) acceptance on the label, so I guess Amazon just doesn't want to sell me a yellow one.

Prop 65 again?

It is probably that they don't have the yellow can in a warehouse near me, but do have the red cans. They are all CARB approved, and made in the USA. I try to use Yellow for Diesel, Red for gasoline and Blue for Kerosene, to avoid mistakes that can destroy equipment engines. I got tired of buying the plastic cans, they have too many leaks when fueling, and they develop cracks within a year or two. I have switched to only using the metal cans as they are much safer.

Home internet is out due to some physical problem. They won't be able to send someone out until tomorrow afternoon. This is one of the times it's really annoying not having a phone plan without unlimited data.
My phone and broadband are both the same provider. I don't have unlimited data on my phone but if the broadband is out then I get unlimited data until its back.

Tracking says my package was delivered to the neighborhood cluster mailbox unit but nothing's there. I report my package as not delivered and tell them there's nothing in the cluster box unit. They call me to tell me.... tracking says it was delivered to the cluster box unit. When I say there's nothing there (again), they are completely befuddled and have to call me back later.

Since I'm 55+, I've looked into Consumer Cellular and since I'm also an AARP member, I can get unlimited talk and text for $33.25/ month.
I'm seriously considering switching from Xfinity where it's $80+/month.

Are those prices just for your phone? Does it include a handset?

I have no idea on phone costs around the world. I pay £8 a month, unlimited minutes but only 8gb data. That's sim only though.

$20 a month for unlimited talk and text and 20gig data bundled with my broadband. Quite happy with that, and since I'm not a data user on my phone that's not a bad amount for me

My laptop fan is going bad on a three year old Thinkpad. This is the first Thinkpad that I've had that hasn't been a tank. And, of course, the fan is a part of the system board, and the system board costs $2.2k. Might have to build that new desktop sooner than later despite the ridiculous costs of parts. Or I might go the miniPC route as as stop gap hoping prices come down next year.

Some of the Bosgame machines are worth a look. Check out online reviews.

I haven't watched his channel in ages but ETA Prime, I think has reviewed them

The new neighbors have a dog and guess what they don't do? Pick up after it. Their yard looks like the dog's poop hasn't been picked up once.

Yes, we take walk ins for oil changes.

No, you do not get to go to the front of the line ahead of the customers who called and made appointments because you're in a hurry.

We're not Jiffy Lube.

We'll get to your vehicle as soon as we're done with the cars ahead of you; if that means you can't pick it up until the time we close at 5pm, tough.

We're the neglected generation. We have to figure out stuff on our own because no one else seemed to care.

No idea where I would be today if I had pursued different stuff. I started off in Philosophy and completed almost all of the major courses before moving onto a degree that would provide me with better job opportunities. However, no matter what you study or how good you do at it, you can't beat out the privileged that get ahead without correspondingly good performance.

I've started reading the philosopher Bun, and my current take away is to stop focusing on achievement and instead focus on my peace of mind.
