Paramount+ 60th Anniversary Intro

They might put other ships in the S2 intro, or even later S1 eps

Don't confuse the franchise intro with a particular series intro.

This is the franchise intro celebrating 60 years of Trek. It's equal to the rainbow delta that appeared at the intro in previous seasons regardless of series.

If there were/are other series released this year, we'd see this same intro.

I don't think ILM ever debated that it was a good-looking ship model, just that it was unwieldy as shit and generally difficult to film. I remember reading somewhere that they were elated that they blew up the E in TSFS, hoping that later films would use a repainted Excelsior, and then being pissed off when they found out they would still have to film it as the E-A at the end of TVH.

I'm still kind of irked that they removed the original pearlescent finish, but I understand that it was something that needed to be done with the blue screen reflections screwing up the compositing process.

But I agree that she's a gorgeous ship to look at - not a single bad angle on it (can't really say the same for many others that came after) - second only to the TOS Battlestar Galactica, IMO.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I love the TMP Enterprise design. I just don’t think that it’s a ‘simple objective fact’ that everyone thinks it’s the most beautiful spacecraft ever created.

How can they get a tax write off when they sold the screening rights to Netflix for a time, and also released the entire run on physical media?
This was before Netflix came on. At the time, the Tax write off was the reason it gave. It's probably not the full story and I haven't seen an update since other than it's nowhere to be seen streaming wise today.

Who or what is "it"?

Are you saying that Paramount officially stated this as the reason? If so, I'd appreciate a link.
Paramount never made it official, but a source close said it was a cost cutting measure. Here is the original variety article. Also, it happened close to when Zazlov from WB/Discovery was cancelling shows from Max and those he cited were for tax reasons so I think it was a lot of speculation at the time.

Maybe not everyone at ILM, but Ken Ralston is quoted as saying (courtesy of Memory Alpha):

"I'll probably get attacked about his, but I'm just not crazy about the original design of the Enterprise. It's a shape that does not lend itself easily to looking good in the frame. It's hard to come up with angles that read like anything. There are only two good angles on it." (Cinefantastique, Vol. 12, issue 5/6, pp. 54-55), and, "I hate that ship. I've said it a hundred times, but it's true. I think it's ugly – the most silly looking thing. The model is murder to work with, so I'm glad it's gone," (American Cinematographer)".

Likewise, S2 of SFA is almost certainly going to be just the Athena flying around forming the arrowhead.
Now will they mix it up at all for SNW?
Good question. I figure we're either getting a longer shot of the Enterprise or we'll see Disco become the Athena before becoming the SNW Enterprise, though that will mess with production order thang they got going with this.

Even more reason to add more ships during the year.

The intro had a different ship in every show, even within the same show at least once.
