Perhaps both were wrong.
I have no doubt that, like Newton, Einstein and Bohr will become hallowed names in science, who's theories have become more pedagogical conveniences, than truths of how the universe works. The law of conservation seems to be the only one that really holds up no matter what.

Law of conservation of what - energy and momentum?
Is Energy Conserved in General Relativity?
In special cases, yes. In general, it depends on what you mean by "energy", and what you mean by "conserved".
