News? Stories from Dubious Sources

Is the man making money?

I have no idea, as I’m not privy to their accounting.

That's all Paramount cares about.

You mean Skydance.

He's shepherded four Trek series to successful conclusions (Disco, Picard, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds)

And three of those four shows were prematurely cancelled, and the other one only went for the 3 seasons it was contractually obligated for, and not renewed for more. Plus the cancellation of Prodigy. Take that information how you will.

What do you mean "prematurely"?

The days of shows going on and into eternity are over. P+ is drawing a line in the sand as a cost control measure.

Five seasons is a VERY good run nowadays.

“Prematurely” as in the show runners were not aware that CBS/Paramount were going to cancel their shows, and had to quickly change things around in their final episodes at the last minute because of that.

After Disco and Lower Decks were cancelled after S5, they really should've planned for a maximum of five seasons.

It’s looking like it’s less a comment on the shows themselves and more the contraction of the streaming bubble.

IIRC, it was outright stated that Discovery was getting too expensive to continue producing.

Mike Stoklasa of Red Letter Media claims in his latest half in the bag video that he heard from an inside source that the viewership of Strange New Worlds is in the tens of thousands. Like 12-14,000 views for the entire season. He was asked to clarify if he was joking and he said he didn't have to clarify anything and he doesn't know if the source is reliable.

That's basically impossible.

Dumb. Even for Mike. If there were only 12-14k viewers, it wouldn’t have gotten its final (albeit shortened) season. Maybe a movie.

CBS/Paramount was only going to give them a movie for the fifth season. The producers talked them into the six episodes instead.

I was unaware of that. Still, ultimately they did give them the six episodes. They could have said no.

Oh, absolutely they could have said no, I agree. And I’m glad they’ll have six hours instead of two to prematurely conclude their show, rather than a tacked-on ending in the final episode of season 4.

Mike and his source are idiots, and I wouldn't trust him with a fork or a spoon. Probably more like the viewership may have slipped by 1.2 or 1.4 million.

Not that they could say it. Acknowledging the show has several million active viewers would spoil the grift.

I really don’t understand the whole grift that is going on these days. So you don’t like a show? Big deal. There’s lots of shows I don’t like or don’t watch. Many that my wife does. But I don’t post about them online or make videos. I may jab my wife on them from time to time but I get the same from her too on my shows.

Maybe I’m just too honest of a person but fleecing an audience for money for a show you claim to hate (but continue to support) is just asinine in my brain. Just turn the fucking channel. Or get outside.
