My "Vance-bash" ship thread...

darkwing_duck1

Vice Admiral
Because of my problems viewing/etc in the other vance parts thread, I've started my own.

This is ALL the stuff I've done so far (that I haven't abandoned and deleted). Hope you like it...

First, a early TOS era surveyor (one of my early experiments in coloring after designing):

Shran-class frigate:

A TOS scout:

I don't know what this is, another scout maybe or a TOS Fast Attack ship, but I like it:

More to come shortly (Don't want to blow them all out at once..)

Nice designs!

Although some remarks to the first one:

When coloring lineart, you should put the color on a seperate layer with a multiplication function (at last that is what it is called in my old PSP), that translates the grey areas of the lines from the initial white background to whatever color you want to add.

The main sensor/deflector in the side view is smaller "series version", while the top and front view have the "pilot version".

The design itself gives a strong "Pike era" vibe, this could be strengtened by using the "pilot version" bridge dome (which you could also take from the bigger spherical Horizon hull) and the nacelle front and end caps from the "pilot version" (with spikes and without the sphere at the end).

Nice catch about the first pic...I guess that got by me somehow...

As to coloring, I can't do "layers" or anything like that, as I work in MS Paint for parts assembly and any coloring.

I do appreciate the other suggestions as well, but I doubt I'll be revisiting this one any time soon.

Did any of my other designs so far make an impression?

any chance of you being interested in doing some images for my fan-fic..?

I've never done anything like that before...just so you know, I'm pretty much limited to mixing/matching/manipulating the existing parts pages parts, and I work in Paint, so sometimes rescaling degrades the individual parts when I work on them. I have very little skill when it comes to making NEW parts, so the total number of options is limited.

I'm flattered that you asked though, and might be tempted to take a shot if it's within my ability.

For being done with ms-pain(t) they much more impressive. You should keep out an eye for a more advanced program though (my PSP i got as an bonus on a computer magazine cd-rom really cheap) as those layers make assembling those parts really easy, without having to worry about the white halo. If all components are finished and just need to be assembled, i can finish a ship in less than half an hour.

And those other designs are great, i especially love the "fast attack ship". Not a fan of elliptical sensor/deflector dishes though.

You might want to try downloading Paint.net its a free program that has many of the features of Photoshop and its ilk, including layers.

Thanks for the suggestion...it's a good one, but I don't have half the system "artillery" to fire that program off... *sigh*...

I'm going to cross post this with the other "vance-bash" thread, simply because I think it turned out so well, and I know there likely are people reading that thread that haven't been here.

Inspired by the description if the "battleships" in Diane Duane's "The Wounded Sky", one of which also appeared in the early "Rihannsu" books as a "Defender-class destroyer". I took some liberties, but given the vague nature of the description I don't know how many. To give you a sense of scale, the saucer section is approx 130% the size of a Constitution-class'.

all i'd like is some pics similar to what you've done, if you're interested, i can PM you details...

but that 'TOS Constellation' is practically identical to my vision of my 'Sirius' class...
