It really is. I'm glad I got a copy via GOG which I have kept a copy of along with all my other games on external backups

My guess is that their license expired, which means they have to stop selling it.

I have it on my XBox, but haven't gotten around to playing it. If they remove it from purchase, does that mean the game gets bricked as well?

This happened a couple of years ago to a remake of a great 8-bit game called M.U.L.E. - the mobile device remake was M.U.L.E. Returns, which came out in 2012. It was discontinued 7 years later in 2019 and it just stopped functioning after the iOS did several updates. I guess it had old libraries which were apparently no longer supported and it became a useless hunk of code. This really made me sad, as it worked perfectly and was an extremely faithful remake and update to the original (even going so far as using code from the original 8-bit source).

No I believe if you have purchased it in the past and it is on your system you can play it and even download it again if you uninstall. It's just not going to be for sale in the future
