Babylon 5

I'm up to about half way through season two, and still enjoying it! Most of the main characters are pretty interesting, the only one I'm ambivalent about so far is Talia. It's also taken me a while to warm up to Sheridan too, but he's been getting better. I still prefer Sinclair though!
The story behind Michael O'Hare leaving B5 is really depressing:

And then if you look at the rest of the actors, you'll find a lot of depressing stuff. A lot died at 60 or earlier.

I was lucky enough to hear them at Phoenix Comicon for the anniversary. I didn't expect so many to die since then.

Here's that panel. It's really good:

I had read a bit on that, it is very sad. I thought his exit from the series felt a bit unplanned, so I looked it up.

I'll have to check those things out at some point! I'm trying to avoid spoilers for the moment, so I might wait a bit so I don't learn anything too early!

There are no spoilers in the first video. It's strictly about him leaving the show.

Excalibur being pursued by Earthforce during Season 2. So my theory is that there was another Excalibur-type ship out there belonging to the guys that built the Shadow Hybrids. They used it to commit some serious crime, maybe destroying a civilian ship or colony, and framed Excalibur for it. So Gideon goes on the run and then Lochley is tasked with bringing him in. In this art my idea is that Lochley teamed up with Ivanova and used her Warlock-class ship Titans as her command ship. The Titans apparently keeps Ulkesh's ship aboard it (this is real, not something I made up - apparently it fixed itself from exploding?!) and I thought it would be an interesting asset in trying to stop Excalibur, somehow.

Yep. B5 collected the debris for analysis, and the ship slowly reassembled itself, at which point they decided to just lock up that docking bay and never go into it again (until the thing with the oddly-named Titans. Why is it not "Titan"?).

Probably named after the group of gods before the Olympian gods. There were a number of Earthforce ships named after mythological figures: Furies, Prometheus, Heracles, etc.

I think it's following the same kind of naming as Furies, rather than just Fury I guess. Funny thing is, to me, I heard Furies as Furious, which I then named a star destroyer in my fanfiction after, and then was really surprised when I found out I'd misheard it for over a decade.

Just finished up the last of Babylon 5! I enjoyed it quite a bit, although the fifth season and movies were a bit of a letdown for me. I was pretty disappointed with the telepath arc in S5, and losing Ivanova definitely didn't help either, but the last few episodes of the season were still pretty good! I'm not sure if I'll watch Crusade next or take a break, I've heard it's not as good.

I remember thinking that a couple of episodes near the end, the one about the Minbari Ranger facing his fears and the Bester episode, felt very strange to be right up against the end of the series—since the first had little to do with the main story, and the second was obviously setting up the Telepath War or something leading into it that would be elaborated on in Crusade (but then mostly wasn’t, because of the cancellation).

Yeah, there were a few episodes like that didn't really fit in as well with the others. I was guessing some was due to setting up season 4 as a possible finale if they didn't get season 5, and then not having as many ideas when they did get it. They definitely did seem to be setting up things for sequel shows though!

"Learning Curve"... it was an interesting glimpse into how Rangers are trained. Terror is a weapon that Minbari are not afraid to wield, and by extension they learn how to face it well. I agree, though, that it felt a bit out of place.

"The Corps is Mother, the Corps is Father"... always great to see Bester. (Great villain.) It was very much a side quest, and it likely was one of the steps toward establishing the Telepath War that we didn't get to see. It did feel slightly out of place, though.

The thing to remember is JMS wasn't even sure he'd get a 5th season, which is why season 4 is so jam packed. (But excellent!) TNT came it at literally the last minute to give them a final season. (The series finale was the last produced episode season 4, but held back so it could be aired as the final episode at the end of season 5.) That's why season 5 has spots that feel like they dragged a bit.

I personally really liked CRUSADE. (Though the music was a bit jarring at first.) I think it absolutely could have been fantastic if it went on longer.

Okay, good to know! I was thinking of taking a short break from the B5 universe due to flying through all of the episodes so quickly. It is only 13 episodes though, so not too long. I just usually try not to watch similar shows back to back so I keep things fresh!

Yeah, Crusade is pretty good, it just got cut off before it could get anywhere.

Also, the viewing order recommended by JMS is different from the order they were originally broadcast on TNT.
