A proposed new StarShip Design for a proposed but Un-Commissioned Show at the time.

I mean, I would be a little more interested if it were Eaves or Drexler, who have experience with the ENT era. This just seems like a distilled Probert-shape, with a couple of TOS nacelles.

Doesn’t really change my point.
But, he's not a random "No Name Star Trek Artist", he's a celebrated ship designer who was important for the creation of some of the most important & popular ships.

e.g. The TMP ReFit Enterprise, The Galaxy Class Enterprise-D.

And when Mike Sussman seeked him out to do some Preliminary Concept Art for free/fun, here's what you get.

So yeah, he's not on the Current Star Trek Payroll, but that's not the important part.
It's about what he can do & bring to the design through his sense of design aesthetic given his historical contributions to Star Trek.

He's a important & prolific Star Trek StarShip designer who has true important lineage, that's why he was asked to help.

It doesn't have to be a current Star Trek Artist, it's showing off some preliminary designs to the fans for a show that they're trying to pitch.

Nothing More, Nothing less.

I know who he is. My point still stands. He is not currently working in that capacity so any concept art he’s created isn’t relevant to any new show (or pipe-dream of a show) coming down the pipeline.

Then why are you so upset at it?

Who cares if what he made is used down the line or not; it's to get initial rough draft ideas down onto paper.

Any refinement will come once the show is taken up and if he's hired or not.

You’re confusing being upset to speaking of reality.

I know what the intent is. Still doesn’t change my point.

And the reality is that this show has little chance of being made. Probert can draw all the concept art he wants, but that won’t change anything if the pitch is passed over.

Okay. The rest of us are just enjoying intial rough draft sketches.

I know what the intent is. Still doesn’t change my point.
Sure, whatever. You made your point.
The rest of us will go on to enjoy the art.

Okay, but that's not on Probert, that's on Mike Sussman and the rest of the team trying to pitch the President Archer show.

The problem I see is that Probert is locked into what Enterprise established as 2150s Starfleet, and as I said all those years ago, that NX design left very little room for differentiating the 100 years between then and TOS. Everything ends up being little tiny details to say 2200 is different from 2150 or 2250. I also have always had the feeling Probert’s style lends itself better to post-TOS than pre, so this ship looks like it might be the wheels for the Federation president in Picard’s time. It ends up being good because everything Probert does is good, but it isn’t “right” or distinctive.

The other problem is that he's just taking a design he made in 2009 that looks to be from the TNG movie era, and changed the nacelles to look more like TOS. We've been down that road many times before, and it never ends well.

"Probert-shape"? Funny you say that, since I have used the term "Eaveshape" for his constant use of swept, chopped half-ovals with harsh linear breaks ... the _Sarajevo_ was literally a whole ship composed of them, as if in self-parody. Also, I don't see anything typically Probert except for the clean lines and pleasant bow so loathed by other Trek designers.

Pre-Disco Eaves would've drawn something similar, but with a random sharp not-quite-vertical blocky bit down the side (or similar harsh slashes on top), and it would've featured one or more swept half-ovals with the skinny end forward. He likely would've also argued that it was a new UFP ship with elements of the tech of multiple species so that he could have his _old nacelles_ where the midsection bulged outward.

I can't say this is an appealing design.
