Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Did people really think The Rapture was happening just because some schmuck on YouTube said so? Are people really that stupid?

Yes and...yes. :vulcan:

*sigh*

Yes, the last 795,000 times someone said the rapture was happening on such-and-such date, people believed them. Last year some lady went on a tipping spree at a restaurant because the rapture was coming, then tried to claim the restaurant scammed her out of all that money in an attempt to get it back.

It's not necessarily stupidity if you've been raised in a ultra religious home where they shun things like education and don't want you associating with "worldly" kids. You home school, you go to church, you only know people from that church, you're only allowed to listen to CCM music and watch Pure Flix shows, rapture this, burn in hell that, and god is watching you touch yourself! That's going to do a number on you.

Finally got some good news! A tutoring center I applied to-- and was rejected because I can't do math-- has- called me back. When I say I can't do math, I'm not kidding.I have an English degree and 20 years scoring the Test of English as a Foreign Language, but I also need a calculator just to get through life.

Well, the center's director wants to teach more and have someone else take over operations.

And it's 10 minutes from my front door.

Hell, yeah. But...their A/C just died, so he told me not to quit my job just yet. He has to see how much cash will be left. But it sure seems like a better job than the clothing store I'm working in now.

Okay, I'm going to try to explain this because I don't know how other countries are doing it. I've been on sick leave for almost a year now, and because it's almost a year, I have to visit my health insurance because they give me my sick benefits.

I also have to visit a work organisation because technically your work can fire you if you are absent for more than 9 months. The 9 months has passed, and my work asked if I wanted to return to my job. I said no, and asked to start the process to lay me off because that's what the rules say a work place should do about being absent for too long.

In hindsight I shouldn't have done that, because now I have to say to that organisation that I want keep my job as a plan B. Because if I keep my job as a plan B, I can keep my sick benefits. Otherwise I lose that and get unemployment benefits, and then I get less money and lose it completely after two years because my government is an ass and decided to cut unemployment benefits after 2 years.

So now I have to save my ass from myself because the visit to that organisation is today and I can't say that I've changed my mind because I realised I screwed myself. So I should say that I want to keep it as a plan B in case my studies get harder and I decide to quit school

Did people actually believe it was going to happen or were they just making fun of it and playing along on social media?
They've been wrong 100% of the time so far, so they probably figure they're due...
Ironically, the Bible clearly states that no one can know when it's going to happen except for the Father. Even Jesus himself didn't know.

Update: there was a mix up with the paperwork, they got paperwork about going back to my work while we got paperwork about quitting my work. So now the correct paperwork has to be filed again. It got delayed till November, I hope by then I got more news about my income

Heck, it's been going on since the 1800s.

I don't have my book handy, but I can point to a couple of doomsday cults back in 1899, that were convinced the world was going to end at the turn of the millennium.

I've started getting odd stabbing pains in my feet (feels like I have shards of glass in them). Wondered what was causing it...and then I realised... I am The Little Mermaid!

(In reality, there's more a resemblance to a dugong...)
