Disney/ABC is removing "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Indefinitely after Nextstar Media --one of the biggest owners of TV stations in the US--was upset of comments Jimmy made about the killing of conservative Charlie Kirk.

In his monologue Monday night , Kimmel said that the “MAGA gang” was trying to score political points off Kirk’s murder. Kirk, a prominent conservative activist, was shot and killed Sept. 10 at a debate at Utah Valley University. Three days later, authorities announced they had arrested the suspected shooter.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said. He also poked fun at President Trump’s response to a question from the press about how he was mourning Kirk’s death after Trump pivoted to a discussion of the construction of a new White House ballroom. ........ Disney’s decision to take Kimmel off the air also puts a spotlight on how frightened traditional media companies have become in an era when the White House and the Federal Communications Commission pounce on individual reports with comments and legal pushback. President Trump has in recent months sued both ABC News and CBS News for comments made by ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos and the editing of an interview with former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on “60 Minutes.” In both cases, the companies agreed to pay multi-million dollar settlements, even though the legal cases were deemed to be quite flimsy by experts.

We get closer and closer to a total dictatorship every month.

It's worth noting that Nexstar, who owns the affiliate stations that has cowardly pulled Kimmel's show, is in the midst of a $6.2 Billion merger that's pending FCC and FTC approval:

Nexstar saw Paramount/CBS and Skydance capitulating to Herr Donnie in order to get their corporate merger approved and decided to pull a sequel. It's bald-faced corruption, pure and simple.

I'm no fan of Jimmy Kimmel's comedy but this is both disgusting and terrifying.

I hope Colbert doesn't hold back in his own monologue when he reacts this news. He hasn't been pulling his punches since his definitely-politically-motivated-cancelation so I hope he continues to hit hard on shit like this.

First off, all those headlines are terribly misleading. The "offending" comments were not really about Charlie Kirk, but about MAGA reacting to it, as well as playing a clip of Trump's own reaction. That's it. It wasn't talking bad of the dead, which itself would also be free speech, but showing the president's own lack of empathy towards Kirk, and making fun of that, which were objected to.

And second, they were objected to not by some grassroots movement, but by the head of the FCC with the implicit threat of economic consequences (not approving Nexstar's merger). This makes it very much a violation of the First Amendment.

And finally, Trump in his reaction already names the next targets of his cancel culture.

This is state censorship by way of coercion.

The issue was shamelessly lying about Kirk's assassin being MAGA, a claim which is absurd on its face... because Kirk was MAGA. (Then again, no one has ever looked at Kimmel and thought "this guy seems intelligent".) So yeah... that's about Kirk.

Kai means that Kimmel made no disparaging comments about Charlie Kirk. The mocking was reserved primarily for Trump, and it mostly consisted of simply playing his own words on tape.

Except he didn't do that. The direct quote is:

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them."

He didn't say he was one of them. The fact is, that suggestion was out there, Kimmel only referenced it while observing MAGA's own various premature judgements of what group of people the killer belonged to.

And that's still not about Kirk. Even saying it was about Kirk's killer is stretching it too far. That particular part was very specifically about the current, post-assassination behaviour of MAGA.

No, it doesn't.
So... Kimmel is not saying that the shooter is MAGA? Let's go with that.

So then he's saying the shooter could be something other than MAGA.

But he says that characterizing the shooter as anything other than MAGA is hitting a "new low".

So I guess he means... he's confessing to hitting a new low himself?

I'm impressed by his candor.

Jesus Christ, do you really not know what words mean?

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them."

Not "something", but "ANYthing". As in several different things, suggesting attempts made in desperation. THAT is what Kimmel called a new low.

It's amazing how deficient our resident grammar Nazi is at words.
