General Trek Questions and Observations

Just joined so sorry if this is in the wrong place. I picked up a communicator that I can not find any information on. It kinda looks like it was handmade. Not sure if I can post a picture. But I’ll try.

Welcome to the board. You can sign up for an image hosting service. One service I have used is a free ImgBB account. You are limited to 32Mb of uploads for the free account, but it should be enough for your communicator photo.

Having seen the first episode, I think Scouts is harmless fluff akin to very Short Treks. I don't see the show doing anything but keeping children distracted for harried parents. Made for the Tik Tok generation, and their kids.

Yes.

You do you, but it's a very well produced fan series that includes actors from TOS, Dr Who, and TOS Battlestar Galactica.

I my opinion ST, along with New Voyages/Phase II and TAS are seasons 4 and 5 of TOS

Should I watch Star Trek Continues?

I enjoyed watching it, and I've been an OT since seeing my first ep of TAS one Saturday morning in September of 1973.

Be warned that the man who plays Kirk has a rep, so be sparing of emotional attachment to the production or actor if those things bother you, but view them in order at least once. It is a very faithful homage to TOS, and pains were taken to give it the same look, sound and 'feel'.

One actor from TOS did star in the first episode, and someone from Farscape starred in another, not gonna spoil the surprise...

if you like TOS, you'll probably like STC.

I Agree. I watched it thinking "would my kids have liked this when they were little" and I have no idea. But it's a fun little concept.

Ya that’s what I thought. But it looks too good for someone slapping something together.
Definitely looks like a labor of love. Who knows, maybe it was made for some long forgotten fan production.

Are the lights functional? If they are LED's by some odd chance, it does help you date the thing. They would have been too expensive to try in the 70's and by the 90's blue LED's were becoming available to do the colors accurately. I wonder what the moire pattern on the sprocket thing originally looked like. Is it made of grey resin with black paint?

Star Trek is rated worst in terms of "creative health". No wonder.

“Someone’s going to have to have a disruptive approach for it to be relevant again.”

Here’s an observation I have…

Star Trek is Super-Sentai. Think about it… it follows all the rules…

- The uniforms are all brightly colored and are primary colors.
- Each new show has its own unique uniforms and updated equipment and vehicles.
- All the villains look the same/ no deviation in uniforms and general appearance… Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Jem’Hadar.

Star Trek is Super-Sentai.
