Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

At least when Lucas didn't use model spaceships in Star Wars films he had rows of human animators drawing every spaceship frame by hand!
You do know what key-frame animation is, yes? Because it's pretty much that.
Also; building, texturing, and lighting 3D assets is a series of overlapping art forms that takes MANY artists to achieve, and often the first step in the process (not counting the potentially thousands of conceptual sketches, drawings and paintings made before settling on a design) is to build a physical study-model. There's no magical "create 3D ship" button at ILM. It's always been the work of artists, regardless of the medium.

Also-also; each of the prequel movies used more model work that all three of the original trilogy combined. That people ignorantly assume it was all CG is entirely on them, not Lucas.

And? What they did still couldn't have been done without computers in the time allotted, if ever. You ascribe the work to talent, and that's true, it's an essential ingredient, but it's not sufficient. All the talent in the world is not enough. Hence the use of tools.

AI is a tool in its infancy, people are still learning the ropes. Your dismissive attitude of it reminds me of objections architects had to CAD.

But that's really neither here nor there concerning the matters of this thread.

It's up to the moderators and administrators of the BBS to decide what content is acceptable to post. If it's ruled that fan-generated content isn't appropriate in this thread, or AI-generated content or content generated with AI assistance, perhaps another or others can be created for that.

Posting this here because it's on my mind.

I just got screwed over by trying to rely on online information.

I've been collecting Legacy Lightsabers and went to Disneyland earlier this week expecting to be able to.purchase the Obi-Wan lightsaber hilt that comes in a plastic crate, only to discover that it was gone and, according to the workers at Dok Ondar's, officially retired despite information online indicating otherwise.

So now I have to buy it from either Amazon or Ebay and spend significantly more than I otherwise would have.

Fine, if you feel the need to pull the rules lawyer card; the title of this thread specifies "News, Speculation & Spoilers", not "Fan art, News, Speculation & Spoilers" and definitely not "AI Generated Slop, Actual Fan art, News, Speculation & Spoilers" (I know, because I wrote it.) Therefore, fan art and AI garbage pretending it's art of any kind is way off-topic, and should be taken elsewhere.

If you want to go start your own thread for shitty AI nonsense unless and until there's a forum-wide ban on it, nobody is stopping you.

:wtf:

While much about the movie remains unknown, including its cast and plot details, its production costs have surfaced. Via Collider, according to the California Film Commission, The Mandalorian and Grogu reportedly cost $166.4 million to make and received a tax credit of roughly $21.75 million from California.

I wish AI gen was banned on the forums. It's terrible for actual creative people and the environment.
My only fear about AI is that it might replace actors in 20 years. Other than that, I don't care if it replaces artwork or VFX artists. Other than that, AI won't be able to go beyond the future world in Detroit: Become Human.

That's not only fucked up, as an artist it fucking offends me.
I'm sorry, as neither an art lover nor an artist, but this is my situation, and I think artificial intelligence should not go beyond talking to people or commenting on social media as if it were a normal human being. And of course, this should have adjustable limits.
