Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

The world of Stationery is VAST, and constantly updating with new items.
And here I thought that just meant paper.

The MagnaTank pens of a decade or so had the best ink reserve of disposable cap pens.

INC pens were not too different.

Pilot pin plastic inserts are removable and make tiny Dr. Shrinker type greebles.

I've never heard of Inc Pens, apparently they're a US based self declared "#1 Value Brand".

Apparently they're sold at your local "Dollar Tree" stores.

Apparently their MagnaTank line is supposed to have a large ink reserve.

Do you know where are their pens made?

Never-mind, watched a YT review, they're made in China like I suspected.

I see why they say their Ink Capacity is larger, they're a "RollerBall" style pen.

I have several of those types from Uni & Pentel.

They're great for ink saturation & consistent lines.

For my RollerBall Pens I own:
- Pentel Floatune in 0.8mm RBK colors
- Pilot Multi Ball in 0.7mm in K color ◄ <Writes on nearly any surface>
- Schneider One Business in 0.6mm in RGBK colors
- Uni-Ball Air in 0.5mm in RBK colors
- Uni-Ball Vision Elite in 0.6mm Line w/ 0.8mm Ball Tip in K color

The one area of Pens that I don't generally collect is Fountain Pens.
I like the modern tips that we have with BallPoint, Gel Pens, & RollerBalls; and the Fountain Pens just doesn't do it for me, also the mess in refilling inks is a bit much vs swapping prefilled cartridges that are sold.
I prefer no mess and never having to deal with ink directly if I can avoid it.

The Uni-Ball Air has a special RollerBall tip that lets it write like a Fountain Pen, w/o the hassel of Fountain Pens.
So if I ever needed to write with variable pressure on the lines, I have a tool that can mimic a Fountain pen.

Over it the EVA-Trek writers room elsewhere on the Studio Firebird lot, the season 3 premiere's first draft script is nearly complete! Just last night, I polished off Act Nine, which places the draft at 107 pages. I'm hoping to get the last act written today, which will probably take things up to 120 pages. That'll be the second feature-length script I've completed within the last 20 months!

I ended up finishing the draft to EVA-Trek's third season premiere last weekend. It always feels incredibly satisfying to have the first draft printed and ready for revising!

I'm currently 15 pages into the first draft for the next episode, so production is humming right along. I've got a goal for finishing two episode drafts per month through the end of the year, and that should complete the prelim work for all 11 episodes! The goal is to work on second drafts simultaneously and then use the Christmas break to lock them into final drafts.

On the mend finally.
Hooray!

Have you ever tried Salonpas Pain Relief Patches?
It's a Japanese product that is now sold everywhere here in the US.

When I had knee pain, these helped shorten the pain cycle & recovery time.

You can find them at Costco, WalGreens, most Pharmacy's.

My family has been using them for ages, great when you're in pain, just periodically apply new patches when the old one stops being effective.
Before, we only were able to get them at the Asian Pharmacy's, but now that you can buy them anywhere, it's super easy to buy them in bulk.

They're pre-cut into small patches.

Salonpas also makes a lidocaine cream that you can rub into the injured area. I found that worked better for me than the patches, but YMMV.

Drawing 672 / 2025 Artwork 74: Cowboy Bebop's Faye Valentine. Got inspired to draw Faye after seeing Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door at the New Beverly Cinema in Hollywood on Friday. Very cool to see the movie on the big screen, even if the old 35mm print was a bit scratchy and had some dodgy transliterations.
