2005-2006 as in all kinds of things were being pitched.

• Star Trek: The Beginning --> An Eric Jenderson movie that didn't get made.
• Star Trek: Federation --> Proposed by Bryan Singer, it took place in 3000 and would've been about the Federation's decline and rising up again.
• Star Trek: Final Frontier --> A cartoon that would've taken place in the 26th Century.
• JMS proposed a reboot of Star Trek. Technically 2004, but I'll include it anyway.

And right now, we have all kinds of things being proposed or pitched which haven't been developed on the TV end. Then two projects on the film end that haven't seen any updates about their progress.

• Star Trek: Legacy --> An idea of Terry Matalas'.
• A Star Trek workplace sitcom that hasn't been greenlit yet.
• Star Trek: Year One --> What Akiva Goldsman wants to get off the ground.
• Star Trek: United --> An idea of Mike Sussman's and Scott Bakula's.
• Star Trek 4 --> Eternally in Development Hell.
• Star Trek Prequel Movie --> Haven't heard any updates about that lately.

Yes, in the immediate future, we're getting the rest of Strange New Worlds and at least two seasons of Starfleet Academy. But beyond that, a bunch of ideas floating around for TV Series that may or may not happen. And movies that have taken forever to get moving and David Ellison might scrap in favor of some other Star Trek movie.

Beyond SNW and SFA S2, it's a ton of speculation and nothing concrete. If 1) either Alex Kurtzman's contract is renewed or someone else is put in his place, and 2) projects start getting officially greenlit, THEN there's something more concrete. Until then it's all highly speculative.

Nothing wrong with highly speculative, except then it becomes just an exercise in everyone talking about "what I want to see and what I don't want to see", which has nothing to do with what might or might not happen or which direction things continue to go in or won't continue to go in.

Some people might scream "Star Trek is dead!" I think they'd be wrong. I think it's more Star Trek is at a fork in the road. Until I know which way it decides to go, I personally don't see any point in speculating in the dark. Everyone else is still free to, of course.

Oh, that is an exceptionally in-depth reply! Much obliged. OK, yeah. I'm 100% with you, then. I thought you were suggesting things are more dire right now than usual, which is where I would have disagreed. When I hear "2005-2006" in relation to Trek, my first thought is about how it was the first time in my life that Star Trek episodes weren't on the air, and that's just depressing, haha.
