I suppose Liam Neeson can’t do *all* the mentor/father figure roles all the time. (There was a time between TPM and Taken when he seemed to have taken over from Connery in that regard - Menace, Gangs of New York, Batman Begins, the Narnia movies, Kingdom of Heaven)
I’m not sure if he’s actually Ramirez or a similar sort of mentor. IIRC, the description of Bautista as playing the Kurgan is the first time that they’ve actually explicitly identified a character to match his equivalent from the original.
Russ might need to lose a few pounds for the action stuff though.
Duncan in the TV series lived in a wide variety of places across the world.
Depending on what the population of immortals in this new film is, I hope that they at least name drop Duncan as a fellow clansman... And this is assuming that Cavill is portraying Connor and NOT Duncan.
Ideally, if they hope the movie will be the start of a new franchise, then they need to not write themselves into a definitive ending, like the original. Like the TV show, this should be a world where there are many immortals, leaving the door open for more stories.

This story is giving their roles the names of the characters from the original but IIRC the producers have not yet done so.
See, that's I thought. I was reading that I kept thinking that at first I only read about 'mentor' for Crowe.
And the Hollywoodreporter article says that Bautista is locked while the article on Joblo said 'in final negotiations for villian'. Nothing locked and no mention of Kurgan.
For all we know they'll be different characters in this movie.
The HR says in its headline that he will play the villain, then says in the actual story that he’s in final negotiations. Kinda sloppy.

I always remember when The Fugitive came out and some critic said they should have swapped roles because everyone knows Harrison Ford wouldn't kill his wife, while Tommy Lee Jones certainly would

IIRC, there was more ambiguity about Wesley Snipes’ protagonist in the spinoff-sequel American Marshalls.
