News "Khan" podcast by Meyer, Beyer and Mack

That's a great star to the cast, and awesome writers, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. Now I guess I need to get working on To Reign in Hell and Ruling in Hell, so I can compare the different versions of Prime Khan's time on Ceti Alpha V.
If you're intending to check out all the versions of Khan's time on Ceti Alpha V, you should also track down the IDW miniseries Khan: Ruling in Hell, written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by Fabio Montovani.

I had the collected edition of that on my Kindle, but when I went to download it onto my tablet to read it after the announcement of the podcast, I found that in the time since I bought it they had changed it from the whole collected miniseries to just the first issue.
I also have Greg Cox's Khan on Ceti Alpha V novel To Rule in Hell, which I'm hoping to read before the podcast comes out.

That trailer was pretty cheesy... and I am down for it! :D

So I guess that answers that question... the "podcast" is just a regular audio dramatization, and it's just the delivery method that makes it different? I would guess it's because podcasts are the new "it" thing?

I think I've mentioned before that I'm not really into audiobooks, but I did listen to and enjoy No Man's Land, so will certainly check this out as well. I haven't been following any news on it, so I didn't realize (or just forgot?) that George Takei and Tim Russ were involved.

Wrenn Schmidt as Marla McGivers? Does she has a clause in her contract that she will only do characters with the initials MM? (I am joking! I know she's done more than just FAM, but that's just where I'm familiar with her from.)

So I guess I'm tentatively looking forward to this. Not long to go, too, it seems: September 8 is the release date (of the first episode, I assume). Good date to pick! :D

"Coming soon, wherever you get your podcasts." To paraphrase McCoy in TWOK, "what if you get your podcasts from nowhere?" (I'm sorry podcast fans, I did try some back when, but they just don't really seem to be my thing.) Hopefully someone will post links or site suggestions when the release date hits.

Both independent and big-money studio productions have released full-cast audio-dramas as free or ad-supported podcasts.

Also, podcasts have been around since 2004, they’re as old as TOS was when TNG came out, not exactly the hip thing.

This was the first mention of them, AFAIK. So yeah, a continuation of the Captain Sulu Adventures! I guess they will come up with an in-universe reason for Captain Sulu not mentioning events re Khan that happened before ST II?

The trailer also adds the performer Sonya Cassidy as Dr Rosalind Lear, as well.

I loved those. Wasn't one of those written by Peter David under a pseudonym?

Early drafts were written by Peter David, who requested that he remain uncredited when he was dissatisfied with a rewrite (credited to JJ Molloy) to exaggerate the sound effects for the promoted new "3D sound".

I'm not sure what you mean. Naturally any Captain Sulu story would be set years after TWOK, examining its events in retrospect. So what reason would he have not to talk about anything?

Rather, Peter was credited under the pseudonym J.J. Molloy.

And yeah, that 3D sound design was really emphasized. I found it unbearable to listen to on headphones, because the voices constantly jumping around and coming from unexpected directions overwhelmed my hair-trigger startle reflex.

Very excited for this. Hope they do a book release down the line. Just give me the script like with the Picard audiobook they did or the Star Wars High Republic ones. I do remember the Marvel stories Realm put out were eventually printed. Cool that this is the third version of this story after the novel and the comic.

According to the link I found before, there is an author of at least one other Simon & Schuster writing project ("A Visual History of World Military Machines") on which a JJ Molloy was a writer, which made me think that this person was the S&S writer employed to beef up PAD's "Caccophony" audio script.

Except Amazon says the book was published by Fox Chapel Publishing in 2023, 29 years after Cacophony came out. The name is probably a coincidence. (My own book lists on places like Amazon and Goodreads sometimes mistakenly include books by other Christopher Bennetts.) Every source I can find says that "Molloy" was Peter's pseudonym.

Back in the day, it was a neverending battle to convince Amazon that Richard Matheson (the father) and Richard Christian Matheson (the son) were not the same author. Especially when both were published by Tor Books.

"One more time: I Am Legend is not written by Richard Christian Matheson!"

Apparently nine episodes, releasing weekly beginning September 8. No idea about the length, sorry.
Most of the scripted podcasts I've listened to so far, Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel's Wastelanders, Batman The Audio Adventures, Into The TARDIS and Bridgewater, seem to average around half an hour.
I thought the trailer was pretty cool, and the reveal of Gegorge Takei as Sulu and Tim Russ as Tuvok has definitely gotten me even more excited for this.
