‘Superman’ Will Fly Over The Heads Of ‘Smurfs’ & Posh Peeps Who Did Things Last Summer With $60M Second Weekend – Box Office Preview

James Gunn’s Superman looks to dip around -52% for about $60M in its second weekend. Monday and Tuesday were respectively strong with $12.9M and $17.1M and a running five day total of $155M. Among Tuesdays for a superhero movie in July, Superman is sixth behind 2019’s Far From Home ($39.2M opening day), 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man ($35M), last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine ($25.3M), 2008’s The Dark Knight ($20.8M) and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises ($17.7M). Superman keeps all the PLFs and Imax screens.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” should secure the strongest start among newcomers with projections of $15 million to $17 million. That’s a decent debut since the movie carries a modest $18 million price tag. Nostalgia should help with ticket sales. Though the slasher film is populated by newcomers like Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders, it’s the reunion of the original stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt — who are reprising their roles from the 1998 film of the same name — that’ll be the big draw for ’90s horror fans.

Gotta be careful of Global Box Office in general.

Those numbers look fishy.

On Tuesday, Superman passed 155 million dollars domestic.

311million would mean that its overseas take was roughly the same.

That doesn't match any other numbers we've seen, which show international box office lagging domestic with something like a 57% - 43% split.

That's not a confirmation, it's GBO doubling down.

It's being confirmed by no one reliable so far.

But it turns out to be true I'm a very, very happy fan. ;)

Okay, so GlobalBoxOffice is using OpusData, which belongs to the website The Numbers.

It's almost certainly a data entry error - they went from a China weekend opening under 7 million to a total of almost 36 million over the first couple of days of the week.

Here's the correct data:

This kind of error is supposedly far from unprecedented for that site.

The 5th movie will come in 2027, my guess is with a lower budget and a smaller scale movie.

By the way, its budget was 160 million dollars, not 180 million dollars.

Coming in at 11.7 million for Wednesday, about 167 cumulative domestic so far.

I was just thinking about it, but the director hasn't been announced yet, but it looks like filming is still underway for The Witcher Season 5, starring Freya Allen. It would be better if they announced a director for this year and started filming in 2026.

So, I just noticed, while the international box office in general may be lacking, the German box office, as listed by The-Numbers.com, is surprisingly strong with $ 9.6 million in its first week. To put this in context, Captain America: Brave New World made $ 9.7 million during its entire theatrical run in Germany, Thunderbolts* is currently at $ 9.3 million.

My seething about Superman 2025 aside, I am starting to wonder why the international box office has barely moved a needle.
Did Marvel get a stronghold on intl. audiences that tight?
Or did the last few DC entries demolish any goodwill?
