What about all the poor innocent Dick's out their? I really feel bad for the lady out their named Karen Dick .

Dick, though, had innocent origins, starting as a general way to refer to a man or regular guy, attested by "Tom, Dick, and Harry." Only over time did it become associated with a body part and the bad behavior of those who possess it.

Karen was intended to be mean right off the bat.

Actually, on alternating weeks, it's either "Tom, Quark, and Harry" or "Tom, Dax, and Harry."

But their was lots of women named Karen before Karen was seen as a insult so I wouldn't say Karen was something designed to be insulted. It was just some random name to sort of represent all women of a certain type,only now it's not limited to those kind of folks. Lots of people including men are sometimes called Karen's. Either way I doubt any women named Karen have faced much grief over the ordeal. Maybe a ribbing now and then but while people aren't so great with context these days, I think most people know the difference.

I suppose but it also means people didn't put much thought into it. It's not like people remember having lots of bad experiences with women literally named Karen. I think it was just something picked randomly. Perhaps some say it as inverse on the word, caring, but I doubt they thought that hard on it.

Through the 1980s, Karen was one of the most baby names, meaning that it is probably associated with women of a certain age.

OTOH, most slang is based on the reuse or innovation of otherwise innocent words. Like I said, dick just started as a means of referring to ordinary guys. "Fuck" started as as descriptor of hard or repetitive beating or striking; during the medieval era, many bird's names used "fuck." The fact that there was no innocent term "Karen" actually makes it notable.

I will always marvel at the hypocrisy of using a euphemism to express outrage at somebody's bad behavior while at the same time not realizing that using it is dissing all the amazing people who happen to have that same name.

You have to admit not all Karen’s are Karens (pejorative), but all Karen’s (pejorative) are Karens (pejorative).
