Who wore the black shirts?

In TOS, I think many cast members were given the shirt color that they looked best in. For example, Uhura started out in command yellow, then shifted to red.

Then there were the plane handlers, fuelies, cat operators, ordnance men...

The first mention of Starfleet blackshirts was in the Bantam novel, "Death's Angel".

Elizabeth Schaeffer was in a special security/intelligence role, perhaps not unlike the canonical "Section 31", which in DSC had half-black insignias.

In TOS, we would occasionally see a crewmember or two in a corridor wearing a beige "hazmat vest" that was sometimes worn just over a black undershirt.

Yeah the black undershirts seemed to be standard for everyone but Kirk. It would totally get in the way of the beefcake shots.

I thought they all had a black undershirt even Kirk but then again wasn't the black collar stitched into the top yellow or red or blue shirt?
Unless you were Dr.McCoy who had that velour slinky shirt armed top!!!
