What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Then here is where you will always be. Not many folks get hired off the streets with no experience and no ability to collaborate. Hollywood wants people that can streamline the production process, not one's that increase it and the production budget for literally zero gain.
Okay, then they just want people to streamline the production process, okay, that can be accomplished.
They want bang for their production budget buck, I can work with them on that.

Is the starship U.S.S. Enterprise a military vessel?Yes, but only semi-military in practice -- omitting features which are heavily authoritarian. For example, we are not aware of "officers" and "enlisted men" categories. And we avoid saluting and other annoying medieval leftovers. On the other hand, we do keep a flavor of naval usage and terminology to help encourage believability and identification by the audience. After all, our own Navy today still retains remnants of tradition known to Nelson and Drake.
That lasted in less time than it took for the ink to dry,

Perfect. That way this made upStarFleet can be non-military while Starfleet is a military . ;)

I do think a more science-oriented Star Trek would be interesting. A ship that is scientists from top to bottom with a more community approach to things like command. Though the trick would be to make it interesting to audience while largely being without things like phasers and photon torpedoes.

An exploration group with civilian backing.
