PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

Now I always wait weeks to see what happens to other people's machines before I even consider patching.

Heck, I'm still on Windows 10. I haven't upgraded to 11 yet.

Gamepass and psplus are both unsustainable simple because their increasing pricing model is slowling killing them

Oh yeah, that's definitely true. Just look at the decreasing quality in the games that you get each month with PS+ Essential.

One thing they could do, and something I wish they would do is introduce a multiplayer only version of PS+ for less money. I honestly don't need all those games every month, as I almost never end up touching them anyway, and the reason I mostly use PS+ is for playing with my friends, with games I've already paid for.

I now remember why I am no longer a fan of Xbox. A 55 GB file is taking nearly two hours to download. I have a 400 Mbps connection and the Series S is sitting within five feet of the router and if you do anything else with the console, it goes even slower.

I’ve went through all the supposed fixes and now it is running even slower.

Oh, on the PS4 and PS5 downloads will be faster in sleep/stand-by mode...

I’ve never had any issues with my PS5. Takes about half the time, even if I’m using it to game or stream.

I definitely think the Series consoles have some kind of read/write bottleneck.

Speaking of PS+ price increases, Sony revealed price increases for several countries for the PS+ service. It still feels like we already had a recent price increase. Myself, I've only got PS+ Essentials, which cost me $95 a year, up from $70 2 years ago. Now it's going to be $110 a year. :(

Just as an example on the Canadian increase:

  • Essential 12-month subscription — $110 (previously $95)
  • Extra 12-month subscription — $190 (previously $155)
  • Premium 12-month subscription — $225 (previously $190)
I keep iterating that I wish they would offer up a multiplayer only tier for a lower cost. I'm fine really not getting a bunch of extra games each month, especially if most of the monthly games are games I'll never be interested in. And seeing this price increase only makes me wish it even more.

Same. I hardly ever play any of the monthly games they throw at me. I have no interest in 99% of them.

I also wish they add an option for individual multiplayer games, much like the tier list they have now with the three different kinds of subscriptions. I really only play GTA's multiplayer (and even then I play in Invite Only sessions, lol). I'd be very happy if they were like "okay, you don't want a bunch of games every month? Price drop. And now you choose how many multiplayer games you play. If it's only a handful, another price drop".

Does your router actually support 802.11ac, or is it an older standard that can't let devices use the full 400 Mbps?

If it's that close, why not just use Ethernet?

Yeah the costs of accessing online on the PS is now at joke levels, hence why i think the PS5 will be my last ps console, as it would in the long run be cheaper to just build a 1440p 60fps pc now and get access to free online and way cheaper games for the long game.......plus my gamepass will be ending this October and i will also be letting that go as at this point as i am done with paying subscriptions for any console gaming ecosystem, as i recently picked up a rtx 4060 for 240 quid here in the UK and it runs most things fine at 1080p 60fps on my ancient pc, and even some at 1440p, and have been digging into my steam account back cat at last, just started Dying light....so yeah i think the days of consoles are coming to a end for me simply because they are losing the one thing that made them great against the pc, and that was bang for buck, but now with 700 quid mid gen refresh and never increasing online access costs, they have turned a bitter pill to swallow.

Yes, exactly that! I would call it PS+ Basic. This also comes after a number of PS+ games have been utterly unremarkable month after month. It's getting harder to justify the price increases. And given that sales are more and more frequent, I feel like I need those extra games less and less, and allowing me to game at my own pace.

What's particularly frustrating about all this is that I'm not with an unlimited income, and the last price increase was already being felt.

I have the same thing. PS5 downloads so much faster than Xbox. There is a wifi setting that you need to switch in the settings (I did anyway) but it's still much slower than PS5.
