The Least Disliked Episode 2025 - TAS Final Rounds

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Here we have the final four - and now it's time for the final part.

*RULES*

Give what you consider to be the worst/your least favourite episode ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When an episode reaches 4 points, it is eliminated. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. If 48 hours without a vote passes, the episode currently leading in points will be eliminated, and a new round will begin. And enjoy! :bolian:

Yesteryear - 0
Beyond the Farthest Star - 0
The Lorelei Signal - 0
The Survivor - 0

"The Survivor" feels a bit too close to TOS's "The Man Trap" and is perhaps weakened again by the plot becoming a trope over the years since. For my money, the other two episodes are more original.

Yesteryear - 0
The Lorelei Signal - 0
The Survivor - 1

"YESTERYEAR" is certainly the best episode of TAS. It's almost impossible to see it lose to any other episode, despite others being pretty good to great. This was just excellent.

Yesteryear - 0
The Lorelei Signal - 2

Any demerit Yesteryear earns in my class is because of young Spock's annoying voice. So...

Yesteryear - 1
The Lorelei Signal -2

I am absolutely torn here. I like that The Lorelei Signal puts the women of Star Trek in the centre seat(s) but then Yesteryear was wonderful world-building and has been so influential throughout the franchise

My vote goes to...Yesteryear

Yesteryear - 3
The Lorelei Signal -2

(I have corrected the numbers - the last post got them wrong)

I realized that too late :-( Mea culpa

If I'd arrived in time, I'd have voted out Yesteryear. Yesteryear was excellent, but it's reusing an old idea (City at the Edge of Forever's guardian) as a plot crutch and gimmick to get to the other plotting gimmick of demystifying Spock's childhood, as well as being able to go back to that planet and look up (or even change) any old point in time. Eventually, the Klingons or Romulans or Tholians or Smizmars or anyone would find out the planet's existence if enough Federation ships went to the planet enough times, and the power of plot means it'll end up normal in the end. Or not.

Lorelai also uses an old trope in the field - "battle of the sexes" - but this does it in a far fresher matter, also letting Chapel and Uhura steal the show, which in turn also shows that not just men are in the security division as well. "Lorelai" is simply more expansive to the franchise, and letting Uhura take command due to chain of command, instead of some one-episode rando stepping in on cue in the TV show, whom we'll never see or care about again, unless said rando becomes as much a gimmick. Or is Q, but Q's the exception to the rule Every rule has its exception, even that one. ♾ 🙃
