Well I tried to like it but not fond of The Flash season 5

After an amazing first season and a scene in the season finale that nearly made me cry ( choked up hard) the show unfortunately started to decline in season 3 or 4 and became unwatchable by season 5 or 6. I can't remember when i actually stopped but it was around that time.

Read up occasionally on it and when main OG cast members are starting to leave the show the writing's on the wall.

I bought a used Blu-ray of S1 a few days ago for $3, and subsequent YouTube searching brought me this video, celebrating the inaugural season in the wake of the show's end...

Season 5 while not the best is certainly nothing compared to the catastrophic downfall season 7 brought. I dont know if it was just covid or if there were behind the scenes changes but from then on storylines started with so much potential and then crashed very quickly and my god those interludes.

Personally I put season 5 above season 3, the best part of that season was the Big Annual Crossover

Interesting. Season 4 is the one people don't really like. I somewhat agree that the Cicada story wasn't the best and the whole Nora sacrifice was compl;eetly undone later on but there were some fun episodes. We finally got Superman into the mix.

It is weird what happened to the show. Its all like they just gave up and meandered along. There were still so many stories and characters they could bring into the show and they just gave up.

Not as bad, but in the CW series Supergirl it felt like every character had to be a Super. It was a little annoying.

It's really strange because there weren't really any big shake ups between seasons 6 and 7. There was a showrunner change between 5 and 6 so unless stuff was already planned for season 6 prior to the departures then I don't know. It's hard to blame it all on covid.

Martian Manhunter, Brainiac-5 and Dreamer are pretty super to be fair

They are........ But then they even made supporting characters like Alex into a super. It felt a little silly.

Dreamer was way cool and cute

Alex had combat skills but needed tech to keep up with some of the aliens. Kelly maybe makes a bit less sense, there wasnt a massive need for another combatant on the team but I guess the showrunners really didnt want to let the Guardian persona go after James left.

I was really enjoying the DCVerse for awhile there, especiallly Arrow and Flash.

What kind of killed it for me, as someone watching them on Blu-ray, was the increasing number of crossovers. It's not so bad if they include everything you need to know on the discs, but IIRC to see the entire crossover you'd need episodes from other series, and if you just tried to jump past the crossover you found yourself in episodes referencing events that had happened during the crossover. Not cool.

They usually do include the crossover episodes. I think the uk versions don’t have the Crisis one which is annoying. Luckily I bought them all anyway.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

This was my pet peeve with the whole crisis thing. Unless you owned or had acess to all the different series the crossover makes very little sense. Microsoft movies and TV had the whole crossover pre packaged as a download with all the episodes in one package and it wasn't expensive so I got my copy that way.

You compelled me to dig into this a bit...where I got lost was season 6, which had the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

Reading a review of it, apparently the entire Crisis arc is included on a separate disc, which I didn't realize at the time I was watching it.

I suppose you can argue that one's on me, but they maybe could have been a bit more clear about it as well. If you're just doing a Play All and haven't looked through the set particularly then I don't know how one would know that.

That said, I'lll still question how much sense the crossover makes if you're not somewhat familiar with the other players aside from the crossover, but, not having seen it, perhaps it's easier to follow than I fear it might be.

Which series set had all of Crisis on one disk?

Only the American one had it though. For some reason, the UK one didn’t include it. It was strange since all the other seasons did include their respective crossovers

...we can pretend I live in the UK if that helps the discussion. :p

...I don't, though. I'll have to find my copy of the set and see whether it really does include that disc.

I actually thought it started going downhill at the end of Season 1/start of Season 2 when they decided to fuck the timeline with his temporal shenanigans, opened up a blackhole, sucked up buildings that were literally breaking apart, and then immediately papered over it an episode later and gave him a parade. Maybe the special effects guys went overboard but that seemed like a warning to me that I wasn't going to like where this was headed.
