Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Skeleton Crew is over. Andor hasn't started just yet. Kennedy stepping down in a year is fresh off the metaphorical printing press. Plus it's a continuation of 10 years of drama. Not to mention those other two shows are good and likedm where she is known mostly for being bad at running Star Wars. I am sure the story will be played out in about a day or so because their is nothing else to say about it that hasn't been said. So are all you are left with is your random chip shots in the more expansive Star Wars complaining.

Dead, basically.

Are you done?

I didn't mean to single you out; it was a general comment.

So why focus on Kennedy? Nothing better to do?

Can't talk about Andor or Skeleton Crew? Guess not.

There are threads for that, and this is the general Star Wars thread. If you don't want to debate the overall direction of the franchise, and the performance of the Lucasfilm chief executive, maybe the general Star Wars thread isn't the place for you. Your being tired of this particular topic doesn't entitle you to demand others not discuss it.

I'm expressing an opinion on the general negative tone of fandom. Where's that thread at? :vulcan:

To me I just have never seen this stuff as all that bad. Only bad with those fans who can't separate fiction from reality and send hate mail. To me it is not to different from how sports fans root on and cheer for their favorite teams. It's a hobby people have decided to be passionate about. Passion means following everything about their hobby in great deal and having a opinion on everything.

That means sometimes they cheer and sometimes they jeer. The head coach is loved when the team is winning and then hated when they don't. Well Kennedy is basically the head coach of Star Wars. When she is gone they will get a new Head Coach and he or she will get the same treatment. Cheered or Jeered depending on performance and if the do good at first they got to keep doing good, because people have a , what have you done for me lately attitude. Even the great Tom Landry eventually got fired.

But then there is no reason for Kennedy to be fired. On the movie end of Star Wars, the only one that can be considered a failure is Solo. On the TV side, The Acolyte is the only true failure from a performance perspective. So, after a decade with about a dozen productions, only two of which really constitute a failure by Hollywood metrics, which is a pretty good success ration in Hollywood. No one gets fired over two failures, unless those failures are epic disasters, which neither Solo nor The Acolyte were.

Their is lots of failures, The Sequel trilogy,Obi-Wan,The Acolyte,Ahsoka, Mandalorian season 3,Bobba Fett and even Solo. Granted I am personally not as down on Solo,Mando season 3 as much as others and I also still think Force Awakens is decent but generally I would say these are failures on the creative side. Now the Trilogy I know made money but their is a difference between a good movie that makes money and a bad movie that makes money and that those movies made money simply off the fact they were "Star Wars" and the brand name matters. Quality actually matters and if they kept Kennedy because the Sequel trilogy movies made money then that is a issue with modern corporate mentality where they favor short term gains over long-term stability.

If you take these movies and shows that are bad and then keep making more bad stuff eventually the brand name is tarnished to a point where you can't even sell good stuff to people like Andor and Skeleton Crew. It's a case of diminishing returns and add that to the fact she can't seem to get another movie made in a long term going through a whole slew of people brought in and then kicked out and before you know it's six years since you last movie and now you have turned Star Wars into something that just makes tv shows.

Then if you don't even make a change in leadership their is also no reason to even expect good Star Wars anymore.. So even if a few good things slip through then it's to late because lots of people have already given up and moved onto something else. It also doesn't help that you lost the old fans and you don't bring in new fans because new fans are young people and young people seem to rather watch stuff on Youtube and TikTok then tv and movies. It does feel more and more like tv and movies is just stuff old people are still into, minus that rare show or movie here and their that breaks through. Not going to change either soon as people start making their own stories with AI.

My comment was actually against the dig by another poster towards TLJ.
That's weird... I didn't name any names!

People even use to like Force Awakens more, back when their was still hope for the sequel trilogy.
There are people who claim they never liked TFA, but then you go back to their old posts at the time and they gave it high ratings. The ultimate fate of the ST compelled them to rewrite their own past! TFA was pretty well received when it came out.

Unlike a sports team I can go enjoy what I consider good in Star Wars.

The discussions seems to revolve around what's bad. Well, Star Wars had this before with the PT and people treated Lucas like shit. Now we're doing it again and thinking the next person will get cheered.

It's a rather vicious cycle that's highly fatiguing but fans seem blind to rather than learning from the past.

How odd, considering I'm a fan of "Obi-Wan Kenobi", "The Acolyte" and "Solo". Well . .. different strokes for different folks.

What is good or bad of course is subjective but I think in terms of numbers most of the things I mentioned are disliked by the majority. Which in turn has hurting them in terms of money if they can't get people to watch even the stuff most people tend to say is good, who watches it. I feel like it's now starting to impact the one thing they will care about is making money. Granted I only care about that so much as in I know they got to make money to keep making more SW.

To top it off I am someone who thinks that even when people do a good job I think you still need to change things up to always to say fresh. Even if I loved everything Kennedy has done, she has been in the job for 10 years. I am someone who thinks your shake things up at least every 5 years, unless you have someone so instrumental to somethings success that this would be a mistake. For example I am not sure I want to see another West Wing project not controlled by Aaron Sorkin. I know this Buffy reboot is going to fail without Whedon having control over it. Granted I am not sure that is the same with Trek and SW. With them you have the leeway of all sorts of different creators making sense. I suppose with them the thing you only need to say consistent is tone. Trek always needs to stay positive and uplifting and SW always needs to be escapist high adventure. With only rare exceptions here and their.

I think their is some retconning on how people felt and now feel about Force Awakens. I admit the movie is hurt a little due to not paying off with the other movies but if you watch it the movie is still a nice fun adventure romp.

I still love TFA and enjoy TLJ. I've cooled on TROS a bit, but it still has some of my favorite designs and outfits for many.

To me the two things I have changed my mind on the most is that I think Solo is better than people give it credit for as is Mandalorian season 3. I also think with some retooling Ashoka can actually maybe be good in season 2. First season was more boring than being in your face bad.

I always liked Solo and think it is amongst the best of the films, topping out Rogue One for characters I actually give a damn about, compared to Rogue One were I really only care about Chirrut and the overall mission, but not the main characters.

Mandalorian Season 2 and 3 are tied for my favorites for two reasons: one, Season 2 has some of the best guest stars in the whole series. Season 3 was more helpful to me in really getting a greater sense of the Mandalorians as a culture and appreciating it more. I'm sure others would go, "Oh, well Clone Wars did it better." which is probably fair. But, I have limited interest in that show, and what I have watched was just ok.

Ahsoka was very enjoyable for me, so color me boring I guess.

My problem is they waited to long to get us to Thrawn and Ezra and Ezra should not have been reduced to being a space hippie. More focus on Ray Stevenson and his protegee who were interesting and less time on Morgan Elsbeth because who cares about this character? Wren and Hera were also badly cast. They don't feel like their cartoon versions at all.
