News Gene Hackman (1930-2025)

Damn. 95 is a good run and you hoped he had a few more years left in him, especially with a loving wife to take care of him. There was a photo of him taken recently in a small cafe/restaurant and he appeared happy and healthy. Tragic accident. Going to watch The French Connection tonight in his memory.

Terrible fate for Hackman and his wife. Peace on their next journey.

I will always consider G.H. one of most talented, unique actors in film (and TV) history, and has one of the most re-watchable catalogs.

For fantasy fans, check out his performance in "The Spores", a 2nd season episode of The Invaders (10/1967), where his energy and magnestism as an actor outshined nearly all of his co-stars.

Obviously, he will be missed.

R.I.P. Lex Luthor :(

First Michelle Trachtenberg. Now, Gene Hackman.

Let's deal in facts as they come out.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

Actually, since this is a discussion board, it is certainly acceptable to propose the most likely hypothesis for something during conversations and adapt them to new information that may become available. You know, like that thing called the Scientific Method.

I imagine that that won't happen if you don't once again try to turn a thread about mourning and loss into a thread about Moonglum.

And, for the record and in reality, your opinion about what happened with Michelle Trachtenberg was nowhere even in the same solar system as being the "most probable scenario".

Rest in peace, Gene. You were one of my all-time favorites. There have been a lot of Lex Luthors, but you were the only one who claimed ownership.
😂

Well I have zero idea what you are talking about in your first topic there. Not sure where I made a thread about myself. I put forth the most likely reason (and even added words like "unfortunately" to try to head off the sensitive people that come out of the woodwork to cry about anything they perceive as offensive) for her death based on extrapolation for many other real world events throughout history.

As for your second sentence - yes you are completely wrong if you think that substance abuse issues is not the most likely scenario for a person who grew up as a child actor in Hollywood (ever hear of the curse that seems to follow those types?) and was showing physical symptoms consistent with heavy drug use. So, as I stated before, yes it may be another reason, but my hypothesis is the most likely (and guess what - it turned out to be true. Heavy alcohol abuse for one thing.)

So yeah, if people want to get offended by me stating my opinion and phrasing it so that it was clear that I wasn't reveling in her downfall, well then call me a troll and get all huffy about it if you like. That's your problem, not mine.

Our local news has reported that the front door was open and unsecured. They are also reporting that the Santa Fire Department did not find any presence of carbon monoxide leakage. The New Mexico Gas Company has also tested the lines and didn't find any problems.

But its not suspicious? Weird.
They are walking that back now. It was suspicious enough that they got a search warrant to conduct an extremely thorough search of the house. The sheriff's office is not ruling anything out and said it could have been natural causes or accidental death, but that it could have also been a double homicide or suicide.

I haven't seen him in a whole lot; I know him from Superman and Young Frankenstein. I also evidently saw him in Marooned, but that was so long ago that I don't remember him in it.

He was indeed a "decent actor," and one who "tried to portray what was given to them in an honest fashion." And in what I've seen, he succeeded brilliantly.

RIP
