Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

I really don't understand why some people who claim their fans of franchises like Star Wars seem to be so eager to see them fail. If you're really a fan of something, I would think you if you were a fan of something you'd want to see it succeed, but these people seem to seek out any report of things being less than great, and jump on it and start going off about how it's the death of the franchise and they seem happy about it.

Confirmation bias.

William Shatner knows Star Wars better than Mark Hamill...

What's hilarious about your post is that you've quoted its own refutation. Mark Hamill never said what Shatner alleged he said or what or Vanity Fair's clickbait headline implied he said.

They would rather have no more of it, and have only the parts that made them fans, than risk more of it that doesn't align with their preconceived notions of how it "should" be.

Am I the only one that finds it utterly implausible that Shatner 1) knows who the fuck Mara Jade is, and 2) gives a flying fuck either way?
Sounds more likely that whoever runs his social media accounts is just a bit of a knob-end and/or desperate to farm engagement any which way they can.

Really? It's a very simple and logical thought process. If one thinks Star Wars has been mid to bad for a long time, and want it to succeed, and think that the current leadership is the reason it's been mid to bad, and that it's highly unlikely the franchise will succeed until there's a change of leadership, it's only rational to hope for short-term failure that will force such a change, thus paving the way for long-term success.

You can disagree with and/or dislike said thought process, but if you genuinely "don't understand" it, you may want to put a bit more effort into your thinking. ;)

But it wouldn't it be better for it to just succeed sooner rather have a whole series of failures that would probably end up having a long-term negative impact on it?

It would be better but it's not just LFL driving this as Disney has been pushing for output, then adjusting based on many factors.

Im sure many fans would love to believe it comes down to "fire this person and life is happiness and rainbows."

Well, I'm not so inclined towards that thinking because they still have to satisfy Disney.

Yeah, there are so many layers to what goes on with these kind of movies' it's really hard to know for sure who is responsible for what.

If one thinks the Lucasfilm leadership is particularly wrongheaded and/or incompetent, that question reads a bit like asking "Wouldn't it be better to win the lottery than to work hard and make steady gains from a diverse and vetted investment portfolio over time?" To which the obvious answer would be "Yes, that would be better, but it's not a sensible course of action."

True, but one could use a platitude like that to say that no executive should ever be replaced for alleged poor performance, because the world is complex, so maybe poor results are never, ever their fault?

That doesn't really work since this is about a whole series of events and things that could change over time, winning the lottery is a one time thing.

But they might not be since we don't know exactly who is making what decisions and why. If they fire Kennedy just because the fans want her gone, and it turns out the bad decisions were coming from someone else or were forced on her by someone else who does the same thing to her successor, then firing her would make no difference.
