Avengers 2 ⅔
If Howard Stark is Dominic Cooper it's a Captain America movie (Cap 1, 2, and Agent Carter). If he's John Slattery it's an Iron Man story.

With a few days to knock this movie around in my head a bit I'm increasingly of the opinion it was a mistake to not have Bruce Banner in this AT ALL. And if that unbalances the movie then don't make your movie with a bunch of Hulk characters.

Maybe I'll get my answer when the movie comes out but wasn't Ross originally going to be in Thunderbolts? Hence the name? (I seem to recall back when William Hurt was alive that it was going to be a TV show as well.)

I hadn't noticed that before but that's a great observation.

Yup, that was one of the biggest things that bugged me, too, especially in regards to attempting to give Ross redmeption. How can you even begin to address that without Bruce?

There have been conflicting reports in the last two years about whether or not Ford appears in Thunderbolts*. I'm guessing at this point that he probably doesn't (aside from maybe a cameo) and the name connection will only come up as part of Red Guardian's to make moniker stick because he thinks it sounds cool (as seen in the trailers).

That was my guess as well. William Hurt might have been in it, but no way they're getting Harrison Ford. And then not putting him in the trailers.

Any thoughts on how James Barnes' political ambitions will figure into Thunderbolts?

Oh: Who was thinking when Sam was talking to an unknown figure in the hospital that it might turn out to be Steve? Bucky was an excellent second choice. And it underlined what should have been more of a theme of the movie of Sam not being a "super soldier" but still being Captain America.

The scene where Sam was asking "When will I be enough?" seemed more of the voice of the writers than Sam. "When will people think he's Captain America?" It didn't sound like Sam asking "When will I be enough for myself." Because he's been saying he's not Captain America from the moment Steve gave him the shield. We're far more OK with him being Cap than he is.

Sorry, writers. He's still first season Jean-Luc Picard.

‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD’ opens with $192.4M worldwide. It is the third highest opening for a Captain America movie
The third highest of four movies isn't exactly good news but you have to respect the attempt at spin.

I might watch this on Disney Plus. It's a pity that the MCU has been in the doghouse for me since 2016. I don't know. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Some folks got mad at Civil War for not being more of the "Captain America vs Hydra" plot from his first two movies and gave up then.

I enjoyed Civil War but for me it was less "Capt. America III" and more "Avengers 2.5." It was the cementing of the trend that had already infected the comics wherein everything was a team-up/crossover rather than a solid stand alone story that had just enough Easter eggs to remind one it was a shared universe.

Yeah, we never really got a Captain America 3 or a Man of Steel 2. The difference being that I liked the movie we got with Captain America.

100% agree. I’m not sure why they made that decision, but it would have been better left as a surprise.
I'm sure. Overall I was surely underwhelmed and borderline-drowsy. But it will give me a good incentive to play the superior FALCON/WINTER SOLDIER miniseries for my neighbor, as she loved BRAVE NEW WORLD. Did other theaters besides mine simply title it thus in the opening credits, Cap-less?

I really have to disagree with the notion that Civil War was an Avengers movie rather than a Captain America movie. The main storyline picked up on Steve's recurring storylines and supporting characters, with Steve, Bucky, Sam and Sharon being the primary protagonist characters, and followed those established storylines and character arcs through to their resolution. The fact that the Avengers are in the movie doesn't make it an Avengers movie. The fact that the larger Avengers team doesn't play into the final act at all underscores this.

The three Captain America movies really provided a well-rounded portrayal of the three primary aspects of Steve Rogers life; soldier, SHIELD agent and Avenger.

Now, if you want to make the argument of the movie also being Iron Man 4, that's another story.

The grab bag of characters felt like what you might see in an Avengers comic.
I still think one of the most comic book things ever was when Ant-Man showed up at the Avengers compound and only met Sam.

It was like a Spider-Man comic book where he would drop in on the Baxter Building and you'd see Johnny Storm grabbing some popcorn and thinking about how he has the place to himself with everyone off on some press junket to sign up for some cartoon show that he didn't want to be in and hey, what was that noise?
