Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Star Trek Enterprise was getting higher ratings than Veronica Mars, but given their respective budgets, Veronica Mars was making more money for UPN, so that was the show they kept rather than Star Trek.

I tend to forget that budget is such a big part of determining if a show is going to continue or not.
Return on investment.

"The Acolyte" had a budget of $230m. And that is without the marketing costs.

Disney+ has no original show in the 2024 TV Originals Top 10 chart.
The number one original show on Disney+ has 58% fewer watched minutes than the number ten show (a low-budget reality TV dating show) in the Top 10 chart.
Paramount+ has two shows in the Top 10 chart. Both are from Taylor Sheridan and the combined budget of those shows is less than the budget of "The Acolyte".

All this talk about "Disney+ canceled their number two show" is meaningless. You have to talk about it in context.

People think that Disney+ is this giant SVOD platform, but it's not (Granted, Disney also owns Hulu).

That honestly shocks me, I never imagined that Apple TV+ and Paramount+ were more popular than Disney+. I had always assumed Disney+ was right up there with Netflix and Prime Video, and I had assumed Max and Peacock were the other way around too.

I'm just more surprised that Disney+ is in 6th place.
I thought they were #2/#3.

Oh, look at that - six out of ten of Disney's most-watched shows are Star Wars programs.

So, we can look forward to a lot more Star Wars. :techman:

Perhaps, but unless Disney's willing to produce said upcoming shows at an apparent loss, spending Solo-level budgets to reach a fraction of Solo-level eyeballs, they might look more like X-Men '97 or The Bad Batch than The Acolyte.

If they keep up the quality of The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch, I would be absolutely fine with that.

Apple TV+ gets a lot of jokes pointed at it but it’s got some damned good entertainment: Ted Lasso, Shrinking, The Morning Show, Severance, to name a few.
Oh yeah, it's got great stuff on there, I just wasn't sure how much people signed up for it since it doesn't have any big franchises like Stranger Things, Star Wars, Marvel, Star Trek, Yellowstone, or DC, to draw people to it. It's one of the services I rotate through, and I've really enjoyed See, For All Mankind, and Foundation. I'm also planning on eventually checking out it's Snoopy/Peanuts stuff, Fraggle Rock, and Ted Lasso.

I think that’s why I appreciate it. Other than Peanuts, I can’t think of a lot of franchise stuff that it has. It actually has some original ideas.

I also forgot about For All Mankind. And Mystic Quest. Which isn’t great but it’s a lot of fun regardless.

Rayne is still working under Disney, she is now SVP of film development at Searchlight, so it’s actually a promotion, I think.

Just seems to be a shuffling.

She’d been at LucasFilm since TFA, involved with all the movies, plus Rebels and as mentioned, the Acolyte

I gotta sign back up for Apple here soon. I had it briefly so I could watch Masters of the Air (which I thought was great) but I got sidetracked by other things and my trial ran out before I could check out anything else. There's a lot of stuff on there that seems right up my alley.

I thought in regard to its Star Wars content, I've been more than satisfied with Disney+ during 2024. "The Bad Batch", "The Acolyte" and "Skeleton Crew" - I really enjoyed all three. If there were more, well . . . I don't recall any other new Star Wars content.
