Man Charlie is (was) a real git.

Or wanker. I'm not sure yet, but I'm leaning towards wanker.

I don't think there's many moments in the series where he was donig something annoying, annoying another character, being oblivious, considering his lame one-hit-wonderness as making him and his group "Rock Gods" and on and on.

A real annoying git.

Several Examples.

10. The Pilot: Singing "You All Everybody" - just to "force" people to "recognise" him.
9. Another episode- Shannon comes up to ask him something, Charley immediately thinks it's to ask him about him being a rockstar.
8. Always making cracks about Hurley's weight.
7. Pester Hurley, and making him feel bad for not giving him a jar of Peanut Butter.
6. Calling Russeau lame and pathetic for stealing the baby, when she's obviously very distressed. He's got a bit of a point but he's really nasty about it.
5. Confronting Locke on not telling him about the Hatch, then calling himself a rock god and saying he saved Claire's baby. (Yeah, with Saied's help!)
4. Lying to Claire about not knowing the Virgin Mary staute has heroin in it.
3. Always, always, ALWAYS acting hollier than thou.
2. Always, always, ALWAYS complaining about not being on the A-Team.
1. Always, always, ALWAYS singing and being loud, even when others around him try and ask him to stop and/or are obviously put off by it. (Esp. Singing, louldy, when Jin is trying to fish and taking Jin's motions to shut-up as being complements to his singing.)

If the poll were multiple choice, I'd vote for all 4. Git, Wanker, Twit AND Great Guy. Charlie can be the most obnoxious loser ever one moment, and then make up for it all with something truly selfless the next.

Basically, he's human.

I've never heard of Charley.

Charlie Pace, on the other hand, wasn't really of a git except when he was on drugs.

I didn't care for him as a character and don't mind that he's dead (as opposed to, say, Eko or Shannon or Libby), but the way he died made no sense whatsoever. He had plenty of time to GET OUT of the radio room and seal it off.

I think you missed an important part of the episode. Desmond had told Charlie that he had to die in order for Claire and Araon to get off the island (I guess it's just Araon at the moment) in Greatest Hits. "If you don't [die], none of it will happen. There won't be any rescue. I'm sorry, brother, but this time, this time you have to die."

Charlie was already living on borrowed time so even if he had managed to get out of there the universe would still be trying to kill him.

For the most part I liked him. But his actions in Fire + Water and in The Long Con really made me dislike him. Then stuff in season 3 pretty much changed me back to liking him.

I thought he had his moments where he was a git, but mostly when he was pissed at Locke and worked with Sawyer or when he tried to lay guilt trips on Hurley. But beyond that I thought he was an ok character. I'm not terribly sad to see him go as his story was really told, but I wouldn't have minded if he stayed either if only to move to the background like Rose and Bernard.

Overall though, we need a fifth option as he wasn't exclusively any of those options, but rather he was a flawed human who had the capacity to be all of those things and more.

I enjoyed his arc on the island, but his flashbacks were always a bit dull. One thing I never understood is why he so quickly abandoned his grudge for Locke. In "Further Instructions," he says to Locke "You are aware that I DETEST you, right?" but then proceeds to help him anyway, and after that it's never really mentioned again. Or maybe it was just that Charlie and Locke didn't really interact at all once Desmond came into the picture?

Because Charley is a douchebag. He's all bark a no bite. He has to get his words in, his verbal hate and venom to try and bring people down, but in the end, deep down, he's really just a little bitch who'll follow people wherever they go.

I liked him and he added a lot to the show. But I don't object to the idea of killing him off and him staying dead (disregarding the odd appearance by hallucinations or mirror universe duplicates). Better than the lame-ass route of never killing off any character who has a fan following.
