Having spent many years as an actor I will say one other thing...it felt the main cast had no chemistry, they looked like they were delivering lines as if they were the only ones in the room and not telling a story. No cohesion, no relationships, just lines thrown out...cliched ones at that.

Please god leave the mirror universe alone. AND WHAT IS IT WITH ALIENS WITH EARTH DIALECTS. Irish?? Really??!

Yup. Its ridiculous. Lots of English accents as well. They want this franchise to be star wars. Its not.

Star Trek can and should still take chances. It's one of the reasons why I love Strange New Worlds. A stagnant franchise is a dying franchise. Yes, not every big swing is gonna hit, but you still need to keep playing the game.
There's nothing wrong with taking chances, but sometimes you have to dance with the ones that brung ya'. Any business should not forget why they got where they were in the first place, and lose track of their core identity.

And all that many who've had issues with some of the things that Section 31 and other aspects of what Trek has been on Paramount+ are saying is that MAYBE instead of constantly searching for these variations, and creating a Star Trek trying to be Guardians of the Galaxy, or Starfleet Academy being "Star Trek meets Harry Potter," that the people in charge just make a Star Trek that does what Star Trek does best.

That maybe when people tune in for a Star Trek story they could meet the expectations of what people want from Star Trek instead of trying to constantly morph it into something it isn't.

Netflix had only acquired the rights to broadcast 2 seasons of that series. It had also been broadcast in certain countries, in most countries, on other platforms and TV channels. In other words, if they had the rights to produce a sequel and acquired the rights to broadcast all over the world, I'm sure a 3rd season would have been approved.
The writers and producers of Prodigy were telling us if enough watched, we'd get a season 3 on Netflix. Clearly not enough watched.

A static franchise, because that's what you're actually describing, is a perfectly fine franchise so long as what's being produced is itself producing enough of a monetary return to justify it.

I mean DS9 took a "chance" and set itself on a station instead of a ship.

But there's taking a chance and doing something different and then doing what it sounds like this is. (I've not watched it yet, likely will Tuesday night as a hate-watch.)

Exactky. The franchise is being influenced by superhero/villian movies like Suicide Squad. Lol. Its ridiculous and isnt going to make the franchise stronger.

The franchise is fine.

Not really. Its taken them a decade to even think of getting another kelvin universe movie off the ground since the last one lost money. STD was cancelled after they filmed the last season so they filmed an obvious tacked on ending. Thankfully its gone. Picard season 3 ended on a high note and we wanted more of the early 25th century following the TNG timeline but instead we get another 32nd century production with starfleet academy. Nobody really wants that but we are getting it.

A franchise that's fine would have ended this movie before it got past the storyboarding process.

A franchise that's fine wouldn't have had the production head push through an entire series just because he wanted to tell a specific story for his kids.

A franchise that's fine wouldn't have had the Prodigy Season 2 mess happen.

No, this is a franchise that's in full "executives running it into the ground" state, and that's very much the opposite of being fine.

Not sure why a break is considered a bad thing.

Everyone is taking all their time and energy and opting to watch this horrible movie instead of watching something they enjoy. At this point I truly feel the only way there might be any way of change is for Star Trek to stop being produced and viewers start appreciating what Trek they have.

I don't see any other way because even with poor reviews the views still are going to Section 31.

It's fine because fans will continue on regardless of the actions of executives.

Yes, it's fine. What's the worst that happens?

Poor movies. Well, y'all are watching any way so clearly y'all are fine with it.

Watched it last night, 5 out of 10 for me
Watched at again at the salon and marked it 6 out of 10, because it satisfied my main criteria, despite all faults I was still entertained.
And that's all that matters to me.

I don't think they have a problem with that franchise. They don't care about those franchises directly, and if Amazon had bought the Star Trek broadcasting rights. The perspective of Star Trek would be the same with the TV shows they made with Paramount Television Network, such as Jack Ryan and Reacher (which CBS Studios will now make starting with the 4th season) and the TV series they made with Sony, such as The Boys and Gen V. In other words, they would continue as long as they are watched, maybe they would continue for 3 seasons, maybe 4 seasons, maybe 5 seasons.
The only thing Amazon has a say in the TV series I mentioned above is whether these TV series will continue or not, and Amazon may not even give the budget for these TV series. Although, if we consider that Amazon is a publisher, the budgets of those shows are Amazon is giving.

I watched 20 minutes and stopped. No sense in continuing it.

Are you enjoying the break from Kelvin movies?

I feel like Section 31 was a special case because it was the first streaming movie, the first story set in the Lost Era, the 'worst Trek story ever' and so on. Some people hoped for the best, others wanted to see the train wreck for themselves, and folks like me just haven't missed a story yet. But if Section 31 2 comes around it's going to get as much interest as Suicide Squad 2, which bombed despite critical acclaim. People are just going to lose interest eventually.
