A lot of people said this!
And here we are thirty-seven years later, and the Trek franchise continues to thrive, as it will for another thirty-seven years when it will be within spitting distance of its centennial.
Also let's be real here: quality matters.
Let's also be real about this: you're never going to get 100% quality 100% of the time. There's going to be missteps, misfires, mis-whatevers. Is Section 31 a misstep or misfire? Maybe. Does it irrevocably soil the Star Trek franchise? Hells no. This is but a stumble for the franchise, one which it will pick itself up from and continue on.
I've been busy so I haven't checked out reviews yet, but I'm guessing it's doing really well...
You really haven't been reading the reviews.

Won't have a chance to see this until the weekend but the 16 percent on Rotten tomatoes and the comments here are not sounding good.

I will give it a chance ofcouse.

As usual, they can't keep their own timeline straight.

Only a few months (way less than six) passed between the end of STD S01E15 and S02E14, not a few years.

Is this supposed to be a reference?

Critic reviews aren't everything. The critics raved about Avengers and Age of Ultron but suddenly everyone supposedly always hated those movies once Joss Whedon accusations started flying. Guardians of the Galaxy is a highly rated movie and it's 92% on Rotten Tomatoes while you mentioned that S31 is 16%. Having seen both movies, I'd rather watch Section 31 again than Guardians of the Galaxy (and I don't just say this because it's Star Trek, I quit Lower Decks in the middle of episode 5 and only begrudgingly came back for a few episodes in it's last season, so I definitely don't just support everything with the Star Trek name on it).

As usual, they can't keep their own timeline straight.

I mean Trek fandom's most recent deity, tv god Terry Matalas, couldn't even get Picard's timeline straight, outright told Todd Stashwick to go ahead and make a shirt claiming the Titan launched in 2402 and then when all was said and done gave us a timeline where only 3 months passed between Picard Seasons 2 and 3, now both happening in 2401, yet Seven became a first officer in that time with Shaw already forming an opinion of her as a rulebreaker afterwards (those must have been some crazy 3 months).

Wow that was bad. But also not boring.

Really everything important was bad (character, story, theme,...). But it also several good parts (I liked the look, the production value, the campyness).

If it weren't wearing the "Star Trek" title I would simply say "campy, trashy B-movie fun".
Being part of that franchise though makes it a big disappointment, but also gives a very funny "who-the-fuck-thought-THAT-was-agood-idea?" vibe.

Really? No, I will later. I'd be surprised if there were any. This movie was better than a lot of the cinematic franchise movies.
Even websites which have in the past been accused of being cheerleaders and shills for the Trek franchise are being rather negative towards this movie.

Whoa, that's a surprise. A self-fulfilling prophecy though? Lots of preconceived opinions out there.

Ok here and this is just my opinion, others will likely disagree. I don't mind Star Trek on occasion doing a mindless turn off your brain action story here or there . But for a movie, streaming or otherwise , I have higher expectations . I want it to make you think and have substance. Again havnt seen it yet but yeah does not sound this wil have allot of soul or substance. Star Trek 3 is not considered a "great" movie. But it had soul and cared about the characters.

I think they took this as their cue to put out a negative review so they don't look like shills. If it's so different from usual Starfleet Trek they won't get the backlash, and they can still say: "see, we're not shills."

It was very entertaining and well made. I guess some trekkies hate that!

That's what everyone is so upset about!?

I just finished watching, and you know what? It wasn't that bad. It's pretty much exactly what I thought it would be, a big dumb action movie.

It wasn't deep. It wasn't smart. But it was kinda fun! It certainly didn't feel like a feature film. You can tell it was a series that became a streaming film, but that's ok. It was just long enough to not over stay its welcome.

I do wish they did a few things differently. I certainly wish a few things that were absent in the film were included. But honestly? I kinda had fun with it.

Special shout out to Kacey Rohl who absolutely killed it as Rachel Garrett. She did the character justice and I'd absolutely love to see more of her in the roll.

I'll give it a solid 6. It wasn't great, but it certainly wasn't a total waste of time. There were genuinely things I liked about it. Looking forward to discussing it on tomorrow's zoom meeting.

I wanted to like this so much, if only to buck the trend of reviews. Unfortunately, I just couldn't; it's not just bad, it's insulting. Actually, it's so unpalatable that I'm not sure I even want to pick the bones out of it. I just want to bleach it from my memory, and pretend the whole thing never happened. In short, I hated it almost as much as it seemed to hate me.

2/10, never to be watched again.

Oh, hardee-har-har. While there is much truth to that old Onion video about fan reaction to Trek XI, it doesn't explain all the entertaining and well made product that has been positively received in recent years.

Wow. Such hyperbole.

2/10 implies there was something there you enjoyed. If you really hated it as much as you claim, you'd have given it a zero.

Ah, sorry, my mistake. Apologies for lying.

Congratulations, Paramount. After years and years of my rolling my eyes every time fans declared the latest iteration of Star Trek “Not Star Trek!” and chiding that of course it was, you finally went and made one that, in my eyes, really isn’t.

(It’s a perfectly serviceable streaming adventure movie, one among thousands. And I’m not going to be one of those silly people who tries to get it declared it non-canon. But there’s no Trek DNA at its core at all.)
