And the Next Cancelled Show is...

The replicators work on the same principle as the transporters, so wouldn't they just use the molecules in the space where the food is replicated?

That would create a hand stealing hazard where children would be losing fingers all the time, if the Replicator was "taking" matter from the same place as it was beaming cake, porridge and potatoes.

So, back to Kelly & Mark for a bit: I've heard that they shoot episodes up to 2 months in advance. That's what I'd call farming it. This is the reason for the constant marriage and relationship talk; they avoid talking about specific current events because episodes cannot possibly refer to anything recent. The upside is that they never get into political commentaries, but at the same time, it ends up making them look way out of touch with what's going on, and it also has the side-effect of making them look incredibly self-centered. But they really should kill it off. It's extremely disingenuous to the viewers to claim a show is live (hey, it's part of the name) when so much of it isn't and much of it recycled. It's outlived its usefulness.

The last great host was Micheal Strahan, and they still talked about day-to-day current events. He had great chemistry with Kelly, so much so that his leaving the show for GMA without telling her really shook her. You could see signs of them starting to recycle much of the show when Ryan Seacrest was co-host, but I think it went completely off the rails when her husband joined the show, which allowed them to hide the fact that they were not doing it live other than live-to-tape months in advance.

How would that work if a guest is coming on to promote a movie?
And you're right, I don't like Kelly's husband as co-host. The times when the show has been on the television in the lobby, I find the banter boring. You can't really do a "How was your weekend?" "Well, you were there. You should know." The hosts should have separate lives and interests.

The way it works is that they're scheduled months in advance anyway, based on when any movie/TV show gets released during the time frame they're scheduled to be on for. But I think with them pre-recording so far ahead of time, they have the guests come on earlier in studio, then air their spots during the release's promotional cycle.

And yeah, you're right, they're not even able to do that kind of banter either.

And aside from morning shows, most talk shows record in the afternoon, even when they're night-time talk shows.

The missus and I caught a lot of Mark and Kelly during our Christmas break. I noticed that from one segment to the next, their outfits would change and then change back again for the final segment. I found that off putting. I've never really watched the show and now I know why.

On the subject of physical media... My ex is trying to clear out old boxes of stuff from the house and she came across a couple of boxes of my CDs and DVDs. So I brought them home and sorted them. I forgot that I went through an Asian action and anime phase when my kids were young. I went through them and pulled out "keepers" "tossers" and "yard sale" piles. Then my wife reminded me that the only DVD player we have is in a box in the garage. The "keepers" pile grew a lot smaller. I'm NOT getting rid of my Russian language copy of Highlander!

I have several anime series (Speed Grapher, Robotech, GitS SAC) which I'd hate to just dump or give away. I wonder if there's a niche after market for these. Otherwise, it's off to Goodwill or the library.

Depending where in the world you live, you are sometimes allowed to legally make one "back up" copy of your store bought DVDs.

You can put 400 + dvds onto a hard drive smaller than a pack of cigarettes, but its an involved laborious process.

400 dvds x 9 minutes = 60 hours.

(It took me 2 years to transpose 5000 DVDs.)

That's what happens when instead of airing a "new" show, they'll air the host chat for the day, then cherry pick a number of different recycled segments from earlier shows as the basis for the day's episode. This happens very often. If you're lucky, you'll even have a full episode of nothing but patting themselves on the back by showing halloween or after-oscar show segments and proclaiming how brilliant they are. It's disgusting how many corners this show is cutting. They're moving to a new studio in the Spring, and my guess is they'll retool again and possibly remove the 'Live' from the title, as it's definitely not a live show anymore.

Season 2 of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has been shut down and the show canceled because the star Noel Fielding never showed up for work.

I have to think this would be some kind of breach of contract, unless he has Joaquin Phoenix immunity.

Also, when an actor refuses to come to work, aren't you supposed to replace him with Joe Mantegna?

And now Paramount+ has brought the Frasier revival to an end.
That's really disappointing. I greatly enjoyed the two seasons we got and I was still holding onto hope they would eventually coax David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves to return. :(

Hopefully someone else will pick it up. Fingers crossed.

I would be happy with a Fraser movie that combines characters from all three shows as a kind final goodbye to Frasier character. But if they did this they really need to get Giles back.

It should go to Peacock.
Among those mentioned for the new platform are Hulu and Prime. If they want to promote the series internationally, it would be better to give Prime together with the original TV show. Otherwise, they cannot make that show successful with Peacock, which is only in 20-30 countries.
