Rebooting "I Dream of Jeannie"

Do it as a big budget movie.

Have Margot Robbie produce and play Jeannie.

Have Greta Gerwig write and direct.*

All problems solved, forever.

*Oh, I suppose Tony would be played by...I have no idea. Here's a shot in the dark: Ryan Gosling.

Sony/Columbia has been trying to get a Jeannie feature film off the ground forever (they've gone through about 3-4 different writers).

I'm not sure casting a brunette will be seen as that extreme.
Then again, people lost their shit over a blond actor being cast as James Bond.

Jeannie's sister is a brunette.

If you cast a brunette, people would be wondering, "Where's Jeannie?"

You'd be confusing the audience.

Inevitable mention of the 1994-97 Weird Science TV show.

OT Fun Fact: Weird Science's John Mallory Asher is the son of William Asher (who produced Bewitched back in the 60's).

Reboots are race swapping characters all the time, and in this case there's an even better reason to do it than usual, so I'm sure people will understand. People are stupid, but they're not that stupid.

And then failing miserably.

bad example, the movies didn't swap him, the comics did when they created the Ultimates universe. And the original Nick was still around in 616.

Swapping is a symptom, not the "disease".
Still counts. :p

But there are more: Gordon in The Batman. Felix in Bond. The Watcher in What If..., the Ancient One in Dr. Strange was race and gender swapped, Mordo in Dr. Strange, Heimdall in Thor, Valkyrie in Thor, MJ in Spider-Man, Jimmy Olsen in Supergirl. Tigress in Stargirl, Aquaman in Aquaman, April in Strange New Worlds, T'Pring in Strange New Worlds, T'Pau in TNG, Tim Drake in Titans, Lana Lang in Smallville,

There's also Miles Morales (Spider-Man), Cassandra Cain (Batgirl), and Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel).

None of those are race swapped. Miles has always been Afro-Hispanic. Cassandra has always been mixed race and Kamala has always been Pakistani.

I was talking about the characters.

They are race swapped to those fans who think only in terms of Peter Parker, Barbara Gordon, and Carol Danvers.

Mark Millar was asked who he wanted to play Nick Fury in a Marvel movie.

He replied, "Samuel L. Jackson" ... and the rest is history.

FWIW, Jackson wanted to play Fury just as badly as Millar wanted him. After the interview came out, Jackson contacted his agents and his agents contacted Marvel.

They're new and separate characters. Like James Rhodes (Iron Man), John Stewart (Green Lantern) or Sam Wilson (Captain America). A related issue, but not the same as race swapping.

Pshaw. Failures. Every last one of them.

Yea. Plus it's not even like they're alternate takes on the characters that have been race-swapped. They are SUCCESSORS to the characters who were the same race they were in the comics and then stopped using that moniker either because they changed to a new name/identity(Carol became Captain Marvel) or were no longer able to be that (Barbara became Oracle after being paralyzed from the waist down), Spider-Man died in Miles Morales original universe.

It would be pretty bigoted to say that successor's to existing characters in the same universe must be the same race/gender as the original.

If a white superhero is getting older and looking for a successor are they supposed to only look at white candidates?
