Just an observation - where the elevator is on the landed Anaximander was where the shuttle bay was on the Defiant.

Maybe it's a swappable mission bay?Yeah I wasn't a big fan of how they retconned that shuttle bay area for that one episode. I remember thinking, "when the hell did they have the time to refit that into Defiant?" only to have it disappear right after.![]()
That may be part of why it has a module that can be slotted out/in. Here this experimental tempermental design needs an extra set of localized sensor packages. OK that's solved. here is a package to reenforce the structural integrety fields. OK we don't need that anymore. We suddenly have space that can be swapped out. Stick a shuttle bay there. i don't care that the ship is the size of a jumped up runabout. Do. it.'I just wouldn't have thought a brand-new experimental vessel like Defiant would have had one ready-made like that so soon
The couple of times we saw the Defiant fire beam-phasers, they seemed to come from that strip, or the similar one behind the bridge, between the two big glowing grills on the back, so I've been assuming they were unusually-colored phaser strips for a while. There's always been a strip there, but I don't believe it's ever been indicated or marked as a phaser strip on any tech-sheets. (Although there are various contradictory ones floating around, so I can't say for sure.)
True, the Pulse Phaser's that fires Phaser Bolts are the "Main Weapons".I have a vague recollection of that. Their main go-to, however, mostly seemed to be the pulse phasers emitting from the area near the bussards. Seemed to pack more of a punch in general, compared to the beam variants.
