Spoilers ST Lower Decks - Starships & Technology Season 5 Discussion

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of how they retconned that shuttle bay area for that one episode. I remember thinking, "when the hell did they have the time to refit that into Defiant?" only to have it disappear right after.

I guess it's possible. Starfleet does specialize in modular designs, especially with the Mirandas and Nebulas, for different mission profiles. I just wouldn't have thought a brand-new experimental vessel like Defiant would have had one ready-made like that so soon, considering the Mirandas had been around by that point for 70-80 years and Nebulas for maybe 10-20.

That may be part of why it has a module that can be slotted out/in. Here this experimental tempermental design needs an extra set of localized sensor packages. OK that's solved. here is a package to reenforce the structural integrety fields. OK we don't need that anymore. We suddenly have space that can be swapped out. Stick a shuttle bay there. i don't care that the ship is the size of a jumped up runabout. Do. it.'

There's always been a strip there, but I don't believe it's ever been indicated or marked as a phaser strip on any tech-sheets. (Although there are various contradictory ones floating around, so I can't say for sure.)
The couple of times we saw the Defiant fire beam-phasers, they seemed to come from that strip, or the similar one behind the bridge, between the two big glowing grills on the back, so I've been assuming they were unusually-colored phaser strips for a while.

I have a vague recollection of that. Their main go-to, however, mostly seemed to be the pulse phasers emitting from the area near the bussards. Seemed to pack more of a punch in general, compared to the beam variants.

True, the Pulse Phaser's that fires Phaser Bolts are the "Main Weapons".

The Phaser Strips happen to be the Auxilliary Weapons on the ships to provide "Firing Arc Coverage".

The bridge of the Beagle was about 80% NX-class. Great throwback!

As for the Anaximander, we don't know if it's a prime universe design or not. For all we know it's from some other universe and was always built with an elevator like that. Either way, every Defiant has had beam-type phasers lancing out from places they weren't meant to. The Prime and Mirror Defiants apparently had a beam emitter directly above the bridge.

Jorg has posted a screepcap of the Atraxislammer's MSD which suggests it was a much larger variant of the Defiant. I'm not sure if anyone has done any measurements of the Zipacnamanger yet but it COULD they purposefully scaled her up..?

However, the turbolift tube that they used when it was landed looked like the ship was scaled to one of the smaller (existing) possible sizes of the Defiant, maybe three decks or so.

Could this be a joke? The ship's size has always been inconsistent, so have one shot where it's tiny, and the deck chart say it's enormous?

Well, can we scale the elevator door (which would be at least as high as a person) to the rest of the ship on the planet’s surface?
