It’s M’Benga for me. Out of the three, I just prefer the actor I guess.

But then I prefer Urban-McCoy to Kelley McCoy so what do I know?

When was M'Benga not a doctor?

Chapel's always been more than a nurse. Even in TOS she had a career as a bio-medical researcher.
Oh I think I mixed something up, somehow I thought M'Benga had other duties before he became doctor...

What about Phil Boyce and Mark Piper? What about Bashir? What about the Holographic Doctor? Selar? The spoken-of-but-never-seen Sanchez?

McCoy.

I know Chapel mostly from her appearances on TOS, where she spent most of her time pining for Spock after she got done pining for Roger Corby. Didn't have too many interesting lines.

Two arthritic, underpaid character actors lacking modern sex appeal.* A far-too-genial, exotic-faced gentleman lacking the crustiness some Trekkers prefer. A faux physician with delusions of dimension and being. I'm afraid the last two don't ring any memory bells of mine...but I encourage you to seek out second opinions on each. Despite all this, I'm a Piper fan. Or a Paul Fix one.

(*Despite this, in the mid-80s John Hoyt posed for a PLAYGIRL-style calendar and gave his priest a good laugh about it.)

McCoy was written to be a little overboard at times, but the net camaraderie between him and Spock does prove they're great friends that tolerate each's quirks and in some episodes we do see how Spock can get fatigued of it all as well ("I, Mudd"'s opening).

I wish we had more of Dr M'Benga on screen, but based on this:

He'd still get my vote. Definitely trained and takes action forthwith, what's not to like? Wish we had more of him aboard. Plus, the use of air filter as a futuristic gauze pad is pretty nifty, not likely readily spotted at the time - just like the liquid spritzer, which was also a new contraption at the time...

Oh, McCoy could have said that if M'Benga needed a backup in a way that Nurse Chapel could not provide, then he wouldn't be able to leave Spock, but Kirk's reply is terrific enough on its own.

Chapel could be written hit or miss, but the acting was never less than excellent considering the material. I'm so used to Majel as Number One.

My apologies for the circus clown music poorly mixed into the scenes but ignore that rubbish and Chapel still has some excellent moments.

M'Benga was a great character in the original series. Would have loved to have seen more. I like that portrayal better than todays. Still McCoy is my favorite doctor.
