Playmates Toys

A bit offtopic but I came across a Turtle Augment Spock figure in Smyths in England yesterday. I didn’t recognise the character „Donny“ but my partner recognised him as Donner Teller from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turners.

Took the figure because it fits the 1/18th scale I like from Trek, Jurassic and Beasts of the Mesozoic, and comes with a TOS phaser. Oh, and it was only a fiver.

Ha, that's great! Must be a reference to the 1990s Star Trek/Turtles figures.

Hiya announced they are doing a SNW Pike. The prototype looks pretty good but after seeing how the Kelvin figures look in real via eBay…eh…
yeah, I thought the Kelvin Kirk prototype photos was a pretty good likeness of Chris Pine, but the final product I saw in a video review looked more like Mark Wahlberg, lol

I don’t mind if the likeness isn’t photorealistic. Both DST and Playmates aren’t exactly spot on but yeah, this one just looks bad. I see more of a smushed Matt Damon though, not Marky Mark.

I didn't even know this cube existed. I don't have any of my own but I am always impressed with how the Innerspace line combines ship models with "Pocket Polly" interiors. May we see what the outside of the cube looks like?

Also, black and blue Borg drone, that's something different.

Once again, I have to thank someone on the Board for solving a present dilemma. In this case, a 40th birthday present for the man-who-has-everything (or, at least, several times my income) but who loves Star Trek now and loved TMNT as a child....and who is never going to set foot in Smyths...

Yeah, the Stargazer and the Hood aren't as nice as the others. I'm now only looking for sickbay, then I have all I've wanted in the 90s :D

I can understand the Hood, because they had to do some weird things to the proportions so there'd be room for the figures inside, but I thought the Stargazer was fine.

(Pretty sure I still have the complete set down in the basement...)

I loved the Innerspace toys as a kid - I built basically all of the Enterprise-D out of cardboard for those mini figures.

Q had to pretend to be the conn officer because they never bothered to make a Wesley or Ro.

It annoyed me that Troi and Crusher weren't allowed to sit down.

There wasn't any Trek merchandise to play with in my country back in the day. I approximated ships with Lego bricks - that's by the BlueBrixx advent calendar gives me fuzzies - until a car mechanics chain sold Star Trek air fresheners (USS Enterprise and Enterprise-D). Those Innerspace models would've been so cool, especially because I reckon the figures work in size with the Blue Zone Dinosaur Island playset I have.
