I am not sold on the DCU yet, but the first trailer is like the first impression, it lasts damn long.

Which is no doubt why they're taking the time to make sure they're satisfied with the trailer. It's so puzzling to me when people react to news about creators doing more than one draft of a thing as if it were some shocking warning sign of looming disaster, rather than a completely normal and healthy part of the creative process.

(Although I was always taught that you shouldn't trust first impressions.)

As important as first impressions can be, I don't see this as remotely a cause for alarm.
1. It's just "apparently" from one person.
2. Even if true, how can it be bad news to request a better trailer? We want the product to be the best it can be, even "just" the marketing.

The sky isn't falling yet but trailers and test screenings play a huge part in a movie's hype.
I agree a trailer being good would be great news but I wonder why this news was dropped to the media of all things.

I thought this was known by now, but....

Most studios DO NOT make their own trailers. Footage is send to companies that specialize in it, and they get the order to make a trailer according to the wishes of the studio.
So, studio sees the first trailer.... and may or may not like it. Again, this says nothing about the quality of the film, but how an outside company made a product and the contract giver is not happy.

Which, again, is why it's strange to think there's something bad about them taking extra care to get it right. How often do people get things perfect on the first try?

I agree a trailer being good would be great news but I wonder why this news was dropped to the media of all things.

Why does it matter? Fragments of information leak out all the time, and the media are predisposed to blow them up out of proportion and manufacture fake controversy around them because they have a 24-hour news cycle to fill. Also, what gets out to us through the media is only the barest tip of the iceberg of what's actually going on. You can't judge the importance of an isolated detail without knowing the context.

Dan used to post here as @JacksonArcher FWIW. He is a filmmaker and writer, both of films and for websites. In my experience he is generally fairly reliable and isn’t a fan of clickbait.

Gunn addressed the trailer report/rumor on his Threads account, and says it's "sort of" true but ...

... when he says “studio” that’s solely me, as the only studio involved in cutting or anything to do with the trailer is DC Studios i.e. me & Peter (& I’m the creatively demanding one). This is the exact same rigorous process I’ve gone through cutting every Guardians trailer, pushing the marketing folks as hard as I can, cutting & recutting until I think we have something worthy of the film itself. All that said, my notes are a lot more specific than “make it better.”

I think it's totally normal to ask for a new version of a trailer and I'm pretty sure it's happened countless times in the past without anyone knowing (because it is absolutely impossible for clients to be immediately satisfied with the first version of ANYTHING). The 24-hour news cycle has ruined the reliability of journalism, because the need to generate content quickly and constantly has overridden fact-checking and editorial judgment. So countless articles are based on fragments, rumors, innuendoes, and speculations rather than meaningful information. Most of it is just noise and should be ignored. It's always been important to apply critical judgment to the news and not just blindly believe everything you hear, but that's more important than ever with the much higher ratio of noise to signal we have today.

I don't get why they're rebooting Superman, why can't we just have MOS-2 following Justice League?
Peacekeeper, S1 was part of the DCEU, so how is S2 gonna work out?

This is a new universe that's dumping everything that James Gunn wasn't involved with and starting over fresh. The general reaction to the DCEU was fairly negative, so rather than continuing to try to repair it, they brought in James Gunn, who directed the three Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel and The Suicide Squad (the second one), and Peacemaker, to just reboot the whole thing.
The Peacemaker situation is a little complicated because the series had already been renewed before the decision to reboot was made.

This does not impress me. I saw the first two GOTG movies, they were fun, but I dunno if that kind of approach would work for the DCU. I haven't seen TSS nor Peacemaker, so I cannot comment.

Regarding James Gunn: I liked Dawn of the Dead (2004), the first two GOTG films (haven't seen the 3rd), and that's really all I've seen from his filmography. This doesn't have me thinking, "Yeah, he should run the DCU!" I do want to see Slither, that looks interesting, mostly because of Nathan Fillion, though. Is Super any good? Definitely excited to see Brightburn at some point. I'll give a TSS go when I revisit the DCEU, I've only seen half the films.

I don't see why it wouldn't, DC's characters can be approached a lot of different ways. Hell with Batman alone we've gotten everything from Batman '66 to The Batman and they've all worked.

Gunn has discussed how they'll approach things in some interviews he's given. I'm lazy and don't feel like looking for one right now, but I'm sure you could find one if you really want to know what he said.
