What happened to Star Trek Magazine

I also got the digital supplement today, and the physical magazine in the mail yesterday. First time I've ever got the physical copy before the digital supplement!

I also got the email from them yesterday announcing the end of their publishing. I had mentioned earlier that my subscription expires after issue 12. The email said that if my subscription ends before issue 14, I can call them to extend the subscription to make sure I get the final issue(s). Call them? I haven't called them a single time to subscribe before, and in fact I can't even remember the last time I had to call a company to deal with a subscription service, rather than just handling it online. What is this, the 20th century?

ETA: Oh, for those wondering, here are the digital exclusive stories:

"Memoriam", by David Mack. Set in the aftermath of TSFS.

"The Simulation", by Adeena Mignogna. A prequel to the TNG episode "The Inner Light".

Sad to see it go. I was a regular buyer of Star Trek Magazine for a few years, starting around 25 years ago.

Ditto I'm sad to see it ending I like the original star trek stories in the magazine. they'll still be publishing Star Trek books. But I'll still miss getting the magazine.

I'm very sad to see it go - I worked as a features writer and reviewer on the magazine for a few years before I started writing fiction full-time, and through that I got to meet lots of cast and crew, visited the sets a number of times, and more. And recently, I really enjoyed the challenge of writing the short stories - I had a bunch of pitches in that never got to fly... Thanks for everything, STM! :bolian:

Still haven’t gotten the supplement for 12, despite multiple emails. Sad that the magazine is ending, but dealing with the problems with the supplement will not be missed.

I only got the first issue because I didn't enjoy reading the mag at all - a 'me' issue, nothing relating to the quality.
However, I am sad to hear of the end of the magazine. Imho, an ongoing magazine is a must for any healthy franchise community. But perhaps a printed magazine with month-old news just cannot compete with an Internet bustling with news and videos and instant interaction.

Well, I did call them after receiving that email. The customer service rep said that they are not able to extend subscriptions -- the only way for me to receive the final issue would be to order it online. Very frustrating!

I think it's really weird I got a renewal notice in the mail for Star trek magazine when they canceled the magazine

That's unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear that you were unable to extend.

My experience was a little different, but still frustrating. After the representative at first having no idea what I was even talking about (I basically had to read the email to them), they said that they couldn't just extend the subscription for the one issue I apparently needed (I had thought I needed two, but they told me I was paid up till issue 13--not sure how that happened when the renewals were for four issues at a time), but instead I would have to renew my subscription for a year, and then get the other three issues refunded. I wasn't sure why I needed to renew for four issues when there was only one remaining, but they said that was the only way the system could do it, so I said OK.

So they put through the charge for the one-year renewal, then tried to process the refund, but they couldn't, apparently because the renewal was just added, so it wasn't available yet in the system for updates. So they told me to call back in three days and explain the situation. Which I did, and they gave me the refund... but they basically seemed to guess at how much the refund should be: they picked a round number and said that "should" leave enough in the account to get the last issue... which they weren't sure I would even get because they thought that the information for the final issue mailouts might have already gone to the distribution people. (This was only a few days after I had received issue 12!)

So after all that, I'm not even sure if issue 14 is coming. Not to mention that I haven't received issue 13 yet, and a postal strike just started on Friday here, so it may be a long while before it arrives.

I got issue 13 I like the articles in the magazine. I'm sorry the Vic Fontaine short story is online and not in the magazine.

When does issue #14 (the last issue) come out? I thought it was this week but don’t see it anywhere online.

Just got my subscription copy of the final issue, with stories by Dave Mack and Una McCormack.

(My story, "The Last Noel," is scheduled for the digital supplement, which should be coming out shortly.)
