Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

It was obvious from the outset that they chose the wrong person to direct. It's too bad if that ended up killing the project completely. Maybe course correct next time.

Wasn't Daisy paid $12.5 million for this project? If the payday's already happened and they advanced her that to keep her attached to the film and help guarantee its completion then I doubt the film has died and been buried. It's probably just been put off again, which, honestly, is for the best given that a Rey and New Jedi Order movie would need to be as well-crafted as possible to help wash the taste of Episode IX and, to many, the Sequel Trilogy from many mouths.

Director Krennic's appearance in Season 2 of Andor:

And his previous appearances in the franchise:

Which is a shame, because the recasting was not even one of that movie's problems.
I know, but the executives seem to always pick a non-problem as the one thing to blame a movie's failure on.
Looks like the Rey movie is cancelled. Who saw that coming? Sorry, who didn't see that coming?

I wonder what kind of issues they ran into, it seemed most of the updates we were getting before this had been fairly positive. But at least it doesn't appear to be totally dead, so hopefully we'll still get it eventually.
I wonder if this is why they made the announcement that Rey will be appearing in other movies, so that people won't think they're totally giving up on the character with this announcement.

So they likely replace the Rey movie with a New Jedi Order trilogy with Rey as the head of the Order.

Which, again, is arguably a difference of mere semantics. Would this be a complete new script, rather than the product of extensive revisions of a prior script? Sure, maybe. But, would it need a new contract? Doubtful. And, ultimately, who cares? A Rey movie is a Rey movie. At no point would it have been about Rey participating in the Theed Biannual Cupcake Baking Competition; it was always going to be Rey Doing Jedi Stuff.

All I'm seeing is an un-sourced claim that it's being pulled from the 2026 release window. That's it. Even if it's accurate it's hardly surprising since that date always felt a little overly optimistic. I'd say that it's a good thing they're adjusting the schedule while development continues rather than force it though regardless. Now, it may still come to nought one way or the other, but there's no reason to presume they're even close to that point yet.

Honestly, since we already have Mandalorian and Grogu coming out spring 2026, having another movie released Christmas 26 was a questionable idea to begin with. Wasn't one of the factor believed to contribute to Solo's tepid box office performance the fact that it was released too soon after The Last Jedi?

I think they also held off on promotion for way too long. I'm baffled that the first trailer for Solo wasn't paired with TLJ.

IIRC, I remember someone saying at the time it was because the trailer for Avengers Infinity War had just been released and there's apparently some arcane rule that says how many trailers a studio can release in a given month or something.

^All of the above, really. Honestly they couldn't have made it a tougher release for the movie if they'd tried. Had they waited for the holiday season as was the original plan, I think it's safe to say it would have done *way* better.

I forget the details, but supposedly the decision to move the date was a Disney mandate because they wanted to pump up the numbers for an investor call or some-such. Which just shows where not thinking past the next quarterly report will get you.
