Things that frustrate us all

Municipal Utility District .

They tax us at the end of the year. Last year, my Mom paid them, as a gift. I can't ask her to do that again. Don't know what we'll do. Might have to sell my car. I work from home, so I might have to make that sacrifice.

I'm really sorry to hear that. :(

It sounds crazy to me that they make you pay it all in a single payment. Where I live, the municipal taxes are split into five payments over the course of the year, and even that can get tight. I can't imagine having to pay it all at once.

I had to reinstall my entire PC due to what started as a relatively minor error but every attempt to fix it just made it progressively worse. Windows update screwed up a driver that I thought could be repaired with the DISM tool, but it couldn't find a file to restore it from, so Microsoft suggested I use a bootable Windows 11 installer USB stick instead, which promptly corrupted the boot volume of my hard drive so badly that not even formatting it could make it work.

The only reasons it didn't end in a total disaster were that the files themselves are perfectly fine so I could save a backup to my laptop, and I could reinstall Windows to my brand new SSD that I originally bought to extend my storage space. Still, having to reinstall every app you had on your second hard drive because the fresh Windows doesn't have their registry keys is a chore I'd rather not spend my entire Thursday evening with. At least Steam recognized its own install and marked all my games as already installed.

That's The Menopause, my friend.

Nope. I had a to have a hysterectomy, so they put me into chemical menopause for about a year before hand. When I had the surgery, my hormones were already retired. And that was seven years ago. I can't use that as an excuse.

I posted an av contest thread that I've already posted before, and I'm pretty sure I used the same avatars, too. :vulcan:

At the office today, and there is this constant humming that has been basically nonstop for over an hour.

It's obviously due to the people from the power company working on something nearby. (7 of their trucks were parked at the corner leading up to the entrance to the parking lot.)

I wish they would hurry up and finish. This sound is REALLY getting on my nerves.

Electrical humming? Might be a loose connection somewhere running through the electrical system, or something ungrounded.

So, I live rurally and connect to the main city via a local highway. Well, last night a semi-truck driver ran in to said bridge with the excavator they were hauling. So, now the bridge is shut down until the state can inspect it.

Yeah, that's likely what happened. Still annoying. Kept up for the better part of 4 hours until it finally stopped for good.

That sucks about the bridge. Is it the only way for you to get around? Any back routes?

There are several back routes and I know them. But, my sister-in-law has moved on to our property and gets lost very easily so navigating back routes has been difficult.

It's starting to look like whatever is going on with my bladder/kidney is not just a UTI, I've been to three different doctors/nurse practioners, tried to different antibiotics, and had three negative cultures, and I'm feeling a little better but it hasn't gone away completely. I go to see my urologist tomorrow, so hopefully he'll do some more in dept tests and figure out what's going on. And on top of that, the car has been leaking something the last few days, and it turns out it's the oil tank or pump, and it's going to be around $2300, which is a ton of money for us. Since our car is over 20 years old and no one around has parts that old, my mom had to get a rental car, which is another $300.
I'm figuring the way out luck seems to be going, it's probably going to turn out I've got cancer or my already bad kidney is failing or something like that.
