Anyone catch this? The debunker was an absolute dweeb. I thought Phillip Klass was retarded, this guy put Klass to shame, something I thought previously not possible.

I didn't catch all of it, but one panel member mentioned a press conference for today. If anyone has a link to it, that'd be cool.

OK, Better than science forum. The debunker made such silly arguments, Jupiter was out, a lighthouse that wasn't even manned & so on, the panelists made him look like a joke. A bit of a pattern these days. In the 50's to 70's it was the other way round. Nice to see the shoe on the other foot.

    Here we go..

Wait, a rocket going off was being presented as evidence for UFOs of extraterrestrial origin? Geez...

Nope, no rockets mentioned anywhere in the show, & no evidence of a rocket anywhere either. & those guys know what a rocket is & isn't.

I saw part of the show on Sunday night. It was a rerun of a show from November 2007.

I think the press conference they were talking about was this:

    http://www.freedomofinfo.org/national_press.htm

The debunker on the Larry King program was James McGaha, USAF (ret.) and astronomer. He's been on TV before. For McGaha, there are no credible witnesses of UFOs. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are--witnesses are ALWAYS wrong. McGaha doesn't have the guts to call them liars outright, so he says they're "mistaken."

Well, the phenomenon isn't going away. I have a hunch that debunkers aren't going to have the last laugh.

BTW, are all UFO threads censored (closed or moved) in General Science & Technology?

One of the many video sequences used during the program was a rocket going up. There's even an aft exhaust coming from it.

There was also a craft that one of the panelists touched that went up & made no sound whatsoever, no trail or visible exhaust either. The original poster was inferring a rocket was all the show mentioned, which is incorrect.

Another panelist saw an object that split into 5 sections simultaneuosly, do rockets do that? As for Mcgaha, his assertion that these career military men halucinated or saw Jupter & so on is just hearsay & entirely unprovable. he criticizes eyewitness evidence, ignores film evidence & yet presents the most flimsy absurd evidence for his claims. Jupiter? Lighthouses? silly.

Yes he lacks the intestinal fortitude to call them liars, but what he IS doing is suggesting & inferring these trained pilots & high ranking politicians & such are essentially buffoons lacking any measurable intellect, which is unfounded & lacks substance & credibility.

As for Science forum Bishop, UFO's don't get banned per se,( well, sometimes), rather they get ridicule & scorn treatment common amongst the Sagan-esque sector of the scientific community. If you can't touch it, it doesn't exist etc.

They do when exploding during a failed launch; when dumping spent strap-on SRBs and - in the case of the Ariane 5 - when deploying multiple satellites from one vehicle (see page 301 of the Ariane 5 User's Manual).

    Exactly, where is Mcgaha's evidence??

& on that subject, the idea that extraterrestial life could exist outside earth certainly is nothing "Extraordinary"

As for rocket, I'm sure the cat knows the difference between that & what he saw. Trained military pilots & military men know what a rocket is & isn't.

Those instructions are on page 131. ;)

Sure, and the study of possible albeit incredibly unlikely direct physical contact with ETI could have been a legitimate, rigorous academic sub-discipline of SETI (example) were it not so completely and utterly corrupted by the antics of uneducated con artists and psychopaths ranging from Erich von Däniken to Marshall Applewhite.

Calling Von Daniken a psychopath is a tad silly. This sort of attitude is symptomatic of the can't touch it, doesn't exist crowd. Haven't read his books, but he is certainly smarter than say Egyptproctologist Hawass. Danikens idea that extraterrestial life was here before us is not so unusual.

It's funny when people hide behind science & say it's their base of reality, when science is all about exploration of how things work, not framing already measured & calculated absolutes as the end all be all of reality. Open minded scientists will readily admit there is tons of stuff we barely have an inkling of understanding of.

I stopped believing in UFOs when Greg Brady admitted he faked the UFO for Bobby and Peter to find. Those silly pranksters!

You overstate the impact of fringe personalities like "ancient astronauts" proponent Erich von Däniken and cult leader Marshall Applewhite. They're irrelevant.

Progress in ufology is hindered by a variety of things, including the reluctance of most scientists to stick their necks out and honestly come to grips with the phenomenon. And don't even get me started on the media's lack of responsibility when it comes to UFOs.

There are more cameras on the planet than ever before, taking billions of pictures every year, and yet no concrete evidence of E.T. exisits.

Scientists want it to be true more than anyone, beleive me, But a good scientist will seek the truth before seeking the dream.

I think there is life on other planets, but our system is way to far out in the country for anyone to notice us.
